Spy Pics: Nissan Kicks BS6 Variant Spotted Testing In Pune
The Nissan Kicks BS-VI model was spotted testing in Pune. Spy pics taken by Rushlane reveal that the mid-size SUV had emission testing equipment mounted on it. Spy pics do not reveal any changes to the design of the Kicks.
The testing equipment seen in the spy pics are often used for homologation - ‘the approval by a higher authority to sell/ use a product within the rules and regulations effective in the location'.
Automotive brands homologate their products in various countries, even if they have no intention of launching the product in the particular region. The last manufacturer who homologated their product in India was Bugatti.
The Nissan Kicks is available with petrol and diesel engines across four variants - the XL, the XV, the XV Premium, and the XV Premium+. The 1.5-litre H4K petrol engine featured on the Kicks produces 106bhp of power and 142Nm of torque. The 1.5-litre K9K diesel engine produces 110bhp of power and 240Nm of torque.
The petrol engine comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission, and the diesel comes mated to a six-speed manual. Both the engines are built by Renault and are deployed across a range of Renault and Nissan products currently on sale in the country.
Nissan launched the Kick during January this year at a starting price of Rs 9.55 lakh, ex-showroom. The Kicks was meant to replace the Nissan Terrano models that were discontinued at the end of 2018.
The Nissan Kicks competes with the Hyundai Creta, the Mahindra XUV500, the Renault Captur, and lower-spec models of the Kia Seltos.
Nissan is not doing well in terms of sale in India, and in a bid to turn this around, the company has introduced the Nissan Kicks Red Weekend for the month of December. The company is offering benefits of up to Rs 1.10 lakh, and assured gifts with every purchase.
Thoughts About The Nissan Kicks BS-VI Model Spotted Testing
We're not entirely sure that the BS-VI compliance will help increase sales for Nissan. The company has not been doing well in sales over the last few months and it is a rare sight so see a Nissan on the roads today. Nissan and Mitsubishi are two of the ‘big five' Japanese brands in the country. Mitsubishi isn't doing well either, and we're not so sure Suzuki would survive without the Maruti name. Honda and Toyota seem to the only Japanese giants that are doing well in the Indian markets.
