2019 Geneva Motor Show: Nissan IMQ Concept Revealed
Japanese carmaker Nissan has revealed the IMQ concept at the 89th Geneva Motor Show. The Nissan IMQ concept previews the carmaker's next-generation Qashqai SUV. The IMQ features a coupe-SUV crossover design and draws power from one of Nissan's e-Power hybrid powertrains.
The Nissan IMQ COncept SUV e-Power setup makes use of two electric motors and a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that acts as a generator. The combined power output of the two motors — one on each axle — is 335bhp and 700Nm of torque which is sent to all four wheels. Nissan has not revealed any performance figures for the IMQ concept but claims that the e-Power setup is 'a 100% electric motor drive system that delivers instant, linear acceleration.'
The Nissan IMQ concept is quite a lot longer and wider than the current Qashqai SUV sold in Europe. The Nissan IMQ coupe-SUV crossover concept measures in at 4,558mm long, 1,940mm wide, and 1,940mm tall. While the IMQ is 164mm longer and 134mm wider than the Qashqai, the height of the concept is actually 30mm lower than the current production SUV.
This is due to the coupe-esque design of the IMQ as the roof drops in height as it reaches the rear end of the concept vehicle, where Nissan has placed a large spoiler done up in copper. The roof itself is made from carbon fibre. The Nissan IMQ sits on massive 22-inch alloy wheels that are clad in custom Bridgestone Connect tyres.
Other interesting design features on the IMQ concept include the boomerang headlights and the lamellas, a group of closely spaced lines that are seen on the lower and darker cladded sections on the sides of the concept along with the massive front grille. Lamellas are evocative of traditional Japanese design and can be seen both on the outside and the inside of the concept car.
On the inside, the Lamellas can be found on the floor of the futuristic interior along with the door and seat trim and behind the display of the display. Speaking of the display, the Nissan IMQ features a massive 33-inch display that is embedded into the dashboard. There is also a smaller display that sits above the 33-inch unit that plays host to the IMQ's Virtual Personal Assistant.
