Next-Generation Nissan Sunny To Debut At A Beach Music Festival — Will We See This Caaar Again?

Japanese carmaker Nissan has announced that the next-gen Versa sedan, which is sold in India as the Sunny, will be revealed at Rock the Ocean's Tortuga Music Festival in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, later this month. Nissan will reveal the new Sunny (Versa) on the first day of the music festival, which kicks off on the 12th of April.

Not much has been revealed about the new Sunny, but the new sedan is expected to be loosely based on the Nissan Lannia (seen above) sold in China. The new Nissan Versa (Sunny) though is expected to sport a design that will bring it more in line with its much larger sedan siblings like the Altima and Maxima, which are currently sold in international markets.

The new Nissan Versa is expected to feature sharper looking headlamps up front, which will be a lot sleeker and sharper looking than the stretched and rounded units found on the Sunny sold in India. Also expected to take centre stage up front is Nissan's trademark V-Motion grille.

Moving to the sides, the new Sunny is expected to retain the current sedan's stretched rear door, which should mean that space on the inside for rear passengers, a highlight of the present model, will not be compromised. Like the Lannia sold in China, the new Sunny could sport a floating roof design as well.

The rear end of the new Nissan Sunny is expected to get the same treatment as the front end. We expect the new premium sedan to feature sharp angular LED taillights similar to the ones on the rear end of the Lannia.

In terms of the interior, the new Sunny is expected to borrow quite a few components from the Micra sold abroad. We expect the Sunny to sport a feature-packed interior when it arrives on the 12th of April. Not much is known about what will be found under the bonnet of the new Sunny, but we expect the US-spec car to retain its 1.6-litre engine and CVT gearbox.

There is no news currently about the chances of the new Nissan Sunny coming to India, especially since it is based on the V-platform used abroad. The Renault-Nissan alliance in India is currently concentrating on two cost-effective platforms - CMF-A/CMF-A+ and B0 - for its future in the Indian sub-continent. However, if Nissan does decide to bring the new Sunny to India, a platform switch like the one that happened with the Kicks SUV, could happen once again.
