Next-Gen Honda City To Be Unveiled in Late 2019

Japanese carmaker Honda is hard at work getting the next-gen City sedan ready for the roads. Reports are now suggesting that the next-gen Honda City will be unveiled in late 2019. The all-new Honda City is expected to arrive in India in the year 2020.

According to Autocar India, the next-gen Honda City will retain its 1.5-litre petrol engine. Honda will update the engine with more power and is also expected to be paired with a mild-hybrid system as well.

The mild-hybrid system will be less expensive than the full-blown hybrid setup found on the Honda Accord. The carmaker's flagship sedan for India is priced a lot higher than its rivals, due to its hybrid setup and Honda will be looking to avoid that with a more mass-market car like the City. The addition of the new mild-hybrid setup should also ensure that the 2020 Honda City will be able to be much closer in terms of fuel efficiency figures when compared to its main rival, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.

There is no word currently on whether the diesel engine will get any power upgrades when it slots into the next-gen City. However, Honda is currently working on updating the 1.5-litre engine to make it comply with BS-VI emission norms that go into effect in 2020.

Reports also suggest that the new City will feature a brand new 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine. However, the new engine, which will kick out around 200Nm of peak torque, is not expected to find its way onto the India-spec City.

The new Honda City is also expected to be larger in size. Rear passenger legroom is expected to benefit the most from the increased size. The current version of the Honda City is one of the largest in the segment and the back seat is also quite a comfortable place to be.

DriveSpark's Thoughts On The Unveiling of the Next-Gen Honda City This Year

The Honda City has always been the go-to sedan in its segment for many people. The changes to the Honda City for the next-gen sedan should help it deal with the marauding presence of the Maruti Ciaz, which too received a new petrol engine with a mild-hybrid setup when it was facelifted last year.
