Tata Motors To Unveil Production-Spec Electric Sedan Soon — Based On E-Vision Concept
Tata Motors to unveil an all-new electric car in the market soon. The new electric car from Tata will be based on the E-Vision sedan showcased at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.
Tata Motors is all set to unveil the production-spec version of their all-new electric car in the coming weeks. According to Business Standard, the new Tata electric car would be similar to the E-Vision concept and will be based on the brand's new 'Alpha' architecture.
Guenter Karl Butschek, MD and CEO, Tata Motors, stated, "I can't promise much but stay tuned to the announcements in the coming weeks. You will actually see something that reminds you of the EVision sedan, but on the Alpha architecture."
Tata Motors introduced two new platforms recently — Alpha & Omega. The brand recently launched their flagship five-seater SUV, the Harrier, based on the Omega platform. This platform is a derivative of Land Rover's D8 architecture.
Butschek said that both the new platforms are "battery electric protected", especially the Alpha architecture. He further explained, "It offers the flexibility to develop alternative power trains, including hybrid and electric. The architecture allows the battery to be placed on the vehicle's floor, which, in turn, gives a better ride and handling quality."
Tata showcased the E-Vision concept at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. However, the E-Vision concept was initially based on the Omega platform. The strategy of Tata Motors to introduce the production-spec version of the electric car comes amid the Indian government's push towards green mobility solutions.
The Indian carmaker hopes that their future product lineup, based on the two new platforms will help them recoup. Tata Motors hopes to regain their lost market share and volume sales over the past few years in India.
Apart from the new Tata electric car, the company is also planning to showcase five models at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. Out of the five, four of them being new models, including an electric hatchback on the upcoming 45X model.
Thoughts On The New Electric Car From Tata Motors
Tata Motors hopes to move to the next level in terms of offering customers newer products. The future lineup of the carmaker will be based on the two new platforms, first among which has already been launched — Harrier. The company is now planning to introduce its second product, in the form of the 45X premium hatchback.
