New Maruti WagonR Variant Spied Testing: Is This The New Stingray?
The 2019 Maruti WagonR Stingray has been spied testing in India. The spy pics from Rushlane reveal the black alloy wheels sourced from Ignis, Maruti Suzuki's other hatchback from the line-up.
Although not much was revealed from the heavily camouflaged test mule, we expect that it could be the WagonR Stingray that was discontinued in 2017.
The new WagonR Stingray could feature upgraded interiors that are at par with the some of the latest models on offer, such as the new Smart Play Studio touchscreen infotainment system that debuted on the current-generation WagonR.
The exterior design could feature revised bumpers on both ends making for a sportier look. It is expected to feature a new headlight cluster with LED DRLs and projector head-lamps. The tail-light could also receive similar LED treatments.
The new generation WagonR, launched earlier this year featuring a BS-VI compliant petrol engine. This is offered with two engine options - an 82bhp 1.2-litre ‘K-Series' engine, and 67bhp 1.0-litre unit.
All engines come mated to a five-speed manual, however the 1.2-litre variants are also offered with Maruti's AGS automatic transmission. A CNG variant is also on offer. We expect the WagonR Stingray to carry the same engines and transmission options as well.
Maruti recently launched the XL6 which is based on their best-selling MPV, the Ertiga. The XL6 features design revision overall to that of the Ertiga, and is currently sold under the company's premium NEXA banner. We expect the new WagonR Stingray to be retails via their premium dealership as well.
Maruti is also planning to launch another hatchback in this month. Called the S-Presso, the tall-riding hatchback will be placed between the Alto and the Celerio. When launched, the S-Presso will rival the Renault Kwid.
Thoughts About The New WagonR Variant Spied
The WagonR has been Maruti's best-selling hatchback in the past. The WagonR with its tall-boy and boxy design makes for a roomier and practical cabin. However, the current model is more appealing as compared to the older models. Now we have to wait and see if the upcoming version would be some mutant combo of the Ignis and the WagonR, with the new design overall.
