Maruti Ignis Facelift To Launch Soon; Current Model’s Production Discontinued

Maruti Suzuki will soon launch the new Ignis facelift in the country. The new Maruti Ignis will join the new Baleno in getting a mid-life update, with changes mostly confined to aesthetics and a few feature additions. Apparently, the current Maruti Ignis model's production has been stopped.

Autocar India reports that the bookings for the present Ignis will still be open at the brand's NEXA outlets, even though the company won't be producing it anymore. However, there is no official news from Maruti Suzuki regarding the updated Ignis.

As mentioned before, the main areas of change that you can expect would be similar to that in the facelifted Maruti Baleno. This includes a revamped bumper design, new alloy wheels, a few bits on the interiors (updated SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment unit, trims, etc.) and some extra paint choices.

Some of the premium features, which are currently limited to just the top trims of the outgoing Maruti Ignis model, will be brought down to lower variants as well. The Maruti Ignis wasn't totally ignored by the company till now, but was complimented with some new colours and limited editions. Furthermore, there is a range of interesting and exclusive accessories to choose from.

Maruti Suzuki has an aggressive product strategy for 2019. Starting with the Maruti Ertiga which was launched towards the end of 2018, the Indian automaker also introduced the new-generation Wagon R and of course, the updated Baleno.

The current-generation Maruti Ignis was launched in India back in 2017 at a starting price of Rs 4.59 lakh ex-showroom (Delhi). The quirky-looking hatchback initially came in both petrol and diesel avatars. However, the 1.3-litre diesel variant was later discontinued due to poor demand. It made 74bhp and 190Nm of torque.

The available 1.2-litre petrol variant makes 82bhp and 113Nm. Both engines came mated to a five-speed manual or its respective AMT.

Thoughts On The Maruti Ignis Facelift

Even though the Maruti Ignis is 'relatively' not a big seller in the brand's product portfolio, the hatchback is sold in many foreign markets. For the same reason, the facelifted version is expected to tick enough boxes to gain good sales traction.
