The soon to be launched 2020 Mahindra XUV500 has been spotted testing. Spy pics uploaded by Lemon Green Studios reveal a heavily camouflaged test vehicle that has a BS-VI emission test kit installed on it. There is also a video showing the test vehicle.

Spy pics reveal that the new-generation Mahindra XUV500 will receive major design changes, both inside, and out. Spy pics of the Mahindra XUV500 reveal a new grille that features six vertical slats.

Spy pics also reveal an unfinished headlight assembly that will definitely look a whole lot different on the production-ready model. Pictures also reveal a new set of door handles that are usually seen on luxury cars, meaning Mahindra could replace the cheetah claw door handles that are featured on the outgoing model.

The interiors of the upcoming 2020 Mahindra XUV500 feature an all new flat-bottom steering wheel that has integrated Bluetooth and audio controls. The new SUV also features automatic climate control, a digital MID, and a large touchscreen infotainment system that is hidden under camouflage.

While there is a limited amount of the interiors seen in the spy pics, the cabin of the all new XUV500 look more plush and upmarket. The cabin looks more spacious, and it appears that Mahindra want to keep the interiors subtle and functional.

Spy pics also reveal that the 2020 Mahindra XUV500 was equipped with an emission test kit. The company is probably checking if the engine meets the BS-VI emission requirements, and will most likely off a BS-VI compatible 2.0-litre diesel engine.

The company is planning to launch the new-generation XUV500 during the second half of 2020, and expectations are that the new BS-VI compliant engine will make its debut before the 1 April deadline.

Once launched, the 2020 Mahindra XUV500 will compete with the Tata Gravitas, and the seven-seat version of the MG Hector.

The Indian consumer seems to be slowly moving to seven-seater variants of vehicles. There was a time that an SUV was for those who liked personal space and comfort in a vehicle, but not any more. Every manufacturer is now gunning to offer a third row in the SUV offerings for the Indian market.
