New Hyundai Creta (ix25) SUV Details Revealed Ahead Of India-Launch
Hyundai unveiled the next-generation ix25 (Creta) earlier this year at the 2019 Shanghai Motor Show. The new Hyundai ix25 is essentially the next-generation Creta for the Indian market and is expected to launch sometime next year.
The new Hyundai Creta has been spied testing both in India and China on a number of occasions. India will receive the new new Creta sometime in 2020 and will be available as either a five-seater or a seven-seater configuration.
Ahead of its launch in the Indian market, Autocar India has revealed the engine specs and the dimensions of the upcoming SUV.
The Chinese-spec ix25 SUV will measure 4,300mm in length, 1,790mm in width and 1,622mm in height. This makes it 30mm longer, 10mm wider and 8mm shorter than the current-generation Creta in India.
The wheelbase of the new Creta is said to 2,610mm which is also 20mm larger than the current model in the country.
In terms of engine specs, the new Hyundai Creta will borrow the 1.5-litre petrol and diesel units from the upcoming Kia Seltos.
The new engines are already BS-VI compliant and will replace the older 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre engines available on the current SUV.
Hyundai might also introduce the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine from the Kia Seltos on the next-generation Creta as well.
Power figures of the engines will be identical to the Seltos. This means that the 1.5-litre petrol will produce 115bhp and 144Nm of torque; 1.4-litre turbo-petrol will churn out 144bhp and 242Nm of torque while the diesel 1.5-litre unit will put out 115bhp and 250Nm of torque.
All engines will come mated to a standard six-speed manual gearbox. The 1.5 petrol, 1.5 diesel and the 1.4 turbo petrol will receive an optional CVT, torque-converter and DCT transmissions, respectively.
In terms of design, the new Creta SUV will come with some major styling changes. This includes a dual LED headlamp unit, with the LED DRLs on top and the main projector headlamp unit at the bottom.
Hyundai will continue to offer its signature cascading front grille with chrome surrounds. The rear will also come with a set of LED tail lights as well.
Inside, the upcoming Creta will offer a more premium and upmarket cabin, with better quality interiors, added features and a long list of comfort and safety equipment. Although further details are yet to be officially announced as of now.
Thoughts On The Next-Generation Hyundai Creta
The Hyundai Creta is one of the most popular SUVs in the Indian market. It is the current leader in the mid-size SUV segment in terms of sales, even with the arrival of new entrants such as the MG Hector.
Hyundai will be hoping to continue this performance and even improve with the arrival of the next-generation Creta SUV in the country. However, it will have a tough competition with the upcoming Kia Seltos.
