New Hyundai Compact-SUV Details Revealed — To Rival The Mahindra XUV300

Hyundai is said to be working on a brand new compact-SUV for the Indian market, the QXi. The new Hyundai compact-SUV is expected to launch in the coming months and will be based on the Carlino concept.

The Carlino concept was first showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo. The Hyundai QXi has been spotted testing multiple times and will be positioned below the popular Creta offering in Hyundai's India product lineup.

New Hyundai Compact-SUV Details Revealed

Ahead of its launch, Autocar India has reported that the new compact-SUV will be offered in three engine options — two petrol and one diesel unit. This includes a new 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit producing 100bhp and 172Nm of torque. The other two engines are the same 1.4-litre petrol and diesel units powering the Verna.

In terms of transmission options, the two 1,4-litre units (petrol and diesel) will come mated to a standard six-speed manual gearbox. The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol, on the other hand, will come mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

This will make the QXi, the second compact-SUV to offer a dual-clutch setup; the first one being the Ford EcoSport. However, Ford later discontinued the DCTm replacing it with a six-speed torque converter gearbox. With the Hyundai QXi being introduced with the DCT, we can expect it to be priced at a slight premium compared to its competition in the market.

The Hyundai QXi will come with Hyundai's latest design language, yet will offer a silhouette similar to the Creta. It will feature LED DRLs and LED headlamps similar to the ones seen on the Kona or the Santa Fe while also receiving LED tail lights.

Apart from the new design language, Hyundai will also offer the QXi with a host of features. This includes a number of infotainment and safety features, such as a large touchscreen display, disc on all four wheels, ABS with EBD, multiple airbags and a long list of other features. The Hyundai QXi will also offer a number of segment-first features on the top-spec variant, which might also include ventilated front seats; among others.

Thoughts On The Hyundai QXi (Carlino) Compact-SUV

The Hyundai Creta has gained a lot of popularity in the Indian market. It rivals a number of SUVs in the highly competitive segment in the country. Now with the launch of the Mahindra XUV300, Hyundai will be facing stiff competition from products, even from those in a segment below.

The new Hyundai compact-SUV, the QXi will help the brand to take on the competition in India. The Hyundai QXi will take on rivals such as the Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and the Maruti Vitara Brezza in India.
