Honda has globally unveiled the all-new fifth-generation City sedan in Thailand. The new (2020) Honda City sedan comes with a host of new updates, added equipment and major changes to both the interior and exterior styling.

To start off, the 2020 Honda City is longer than the outgoing model, currently on sale in India. The car comes with distinctive styling at the front, with the thick chrome strip on the front fascia. This is similar to that on other Honda models, such as the Civic and Amaze.

Below the thick chrome strip is a very sleek grille, housing the ‘Honda' logo at its centre. Flanking either side of it are sharp-looking LED projector headlamps, with integrated DRLs.

The headlamps come with a wrap-around style, with the DRLs positioned on top. The front bumper has also been updated, now housing just the central air intake and air vents on either side.

From the side, the 2020 Honda City comes with a minimalistic look, with little to no chrome apart from the door handles. The new Honda City does feature a set of larger 15-inch wheels, with newly-designed diamond-cut alloys. The sedan also receives a sharp character line, running across the length of the car.

The character line merges into the wrap-around tail lights at the rear. These tail lamps are again finished in LED lighting. Apart from the stylish looking tail lamps, other elements at the rear are minimalistic, with clean lines and plain surfaces.

Compared to the current/outgoing model, the new Honda City is longer by 100mm and wider by 53mm. However, the new sedan is shorter in height by 28mm while the wheelbase has also reduced by 11mm as well.

Moving to the interiors, the 2020 Honda City now features an entirely new dashboard layout. The cabin is completely blacked-out, however, for the Indian market we can expect a lighter shade in the cabin as well; most likely a beige finish.

The dashboard also comes with brush aluminium and piano-black finishes all around. At the centre of the dashboard is a new 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment display with expected features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Other features on the 2020 Honda City also include automatic climate control, leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, steering-mounted audio controls, MID on the instrument cluster, automatic start/stop system and sporty aluminium pedals; among others. Safety features on the new City sedan: ABS with EBD, six airbags, vehicle stability control and hill-start assist to name a few.

In terms of mechanicals, the new Honda City in Thailand comes powered by a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. It produces 122bhp and 173Nm of torque; mated to a CVT automatic gearbox.

However, Honda is expected to offer the new City with the same 1.5-litre diesel engine option. This engine will be upgraded to comply with the latest BS-VI emission norms, which will be implemented from the 1st of April 2020.

In terms of petrol engines, Honda could introduce India-bound City with its latest 1.5-litre petrol-hybrid engine. The compact i-MMD mild-hybrid technology already debuted on the latest-generation Jazz hatchback. This could be carried forward on the petrol variant of the new City as well.

Thoughts On The 2020 Honda City Fifth-Generation Sedan

Honda will bring the new 2020 City sedan to the Indian market. Once launched in India, the new fifth-generation Honda City will continue to rival the likes of the Skoda Rapid, Hyundai Verna and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. Prices for the new 2020 Honda City is expected to be slightly higher than the model currently on sale in the country.
