New (2020) Honda City Engine Specs & Other Details Revealed Ahead Of Launch Next Year
Honda is all set to introduce its latest-generation City sedan globally soon. The new fifth-generation Honda City is expected to be globally unveiled sometime by end-2019. The car is expected to come to India during the second half of 2020, after going on sale in Thailand and a few other ASEAN countries.

Ahead of its global unveil, the engine specifications and transmission details have been revealed. According to Autocar India, the new fifth-generation Honda City will be offered globally with three engine options. This includes two petrol and one diesel engine.
The petrol engine options include a 1.0-litre turbocharged engine and a 1.5-litre unit. The new 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine is said to produce 120bhp. However, this engine is aimed for mostly the Thai market, with very little chance of Honda bringing it to Indian shores.
The 1.5-litre petrol option though will come to India. Exact power output of this engine is yet to be announced. However, reports suggest that the 1.5-litre unit will come mated to a new i-MMD mild hybrid system. This mild-hybrid system is first expected to feature on the new Jazz hatchback expected later this year.
The new 1.5-litre petrol engine will come mated to a six-speed manual as standard with a CVT automatic transmission also being offered as optional.
The lone diesel engine is the same 1.5-litre unit, which powers the current generation Honda City in India. This engine churns out 100bhp and 200Nm of torque. Honda will, however, update the engine to comply with the new BS-VI emission norms.
The engine will come mated to the same six-speed manual gearbox. Honda is also expected to offer a CVT-diesel variant; this is the first time that the sedan receives a CVT gearbox on its diesel variants.
The new Honda City has been caught testing on multiple occasions even in India. The new fifth-generation sedan will come with a host of design changes, added features and a long list of safety equipment.
In terms of design, the new Honda City will come with a completely refreshed front end, with new LED headlamps, LED taillights and a new front fascia with an updated grille inspired from the recently introduced Civic sedan.
Inside, the new City sedan will feature a larger touchscreen infotainment system, with a host of smartphone connectivity options, digital instrument cluster, completely revamped dashboard; among a host of other changes.
Thoughts On The New (2020) Honda City
The Honda City is a popular offering from the brand in the Indian market. The City offers a good mix of performance, design, features and creature comforts, making it a worthy model in the sedan segment. Honda is hopeful that the new City, with the updated engine, new design and added features will attract more customers in the market.
The Honda City rivals the likes of the Toyota Yaris, Maruti Ciaz, Hyundai Verna. Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Vento in the Indian market.
