Ford To Introduce A New MPV In India Based On The Mahindra Marazzo Soon
Ford is said to be introducing an all-new MPV in the Indian market very soon. According to Autocar India, the American car brand which recently announced a joint venture with Mahindra in the country will be introducing a new MPV in the market.
According to the reports, the new MPV from Ford will be based on the Mahindra Marazzo. The new Ford MPV is a new product planned for the Indian market. Previously, the two companies had announced that the JV would give rise to three all-new SUVs along with electric vehicle development.
The joint-venture between the American and Indian brand, allows Ford to use the existing platform of the Marazzo for their own new MPV in the market. However, the new MPV will be an all-new product with a completely different design and a host of unique elements, easily differentiating it from the Mahindra Marazzo.
Unlike other manufacturers, Ford-Mahindra will not offer a rebadged version of an already available product in the Indian market. Having said that, the new Ford MPV will have certain components in common with the Marazzo. This includes the Mahindra Marazzo's ladder-frame chassis, front-wheel-drive system and the powertrain as well.
The new Ford MPV will carry forward the BS-VI compliant version of the 1.5-litre diesel engine, currently powering the Marazzo. The diesel unit will be offered with both manual and AMT transmission options as well. Apart from the diesel unit, the new Ford MPV will also borrow Mahindra's new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine as well (this is said to be under development process currently).
The joint-venture between the two companies will also help Ford develop new products for the Indian market. The JV will allow the American brand to share the development and production cost of the new products; which would otherwise be unfeasible for Ford in India.
Also, Ford feels this is the right time to enter the MPV segment in the country. With sales of the MPV making a strong comeback in the Indian market. Ford feels that the introduction of their new MPV will help them boost sales in the market.
The Indian market is currently witnessing a lot of manufacturers introduce new MPVs in the segment. This includes Maruti Suzuki which launched the XL6 and Renault with their Triber. Kia Motors is also readying the launch of the Carnival MPV as their second product in the market.
Thoughts On The New Ford MPV In India
The new Ford MPV based on the Mahindra Marazzo will be introduced as a completely new product from the American brand; and not just a rebadged version of another product. Ford is globally known as a family-oriented car manufacturer and the launch of an MPV in India has been long overdue.
