New Audi Q3 India Launch Confirmed: Expected To Arrive By Early Next Year
German automobile manufacturer Audi, will launch their second-generation Q3 model in India by early next year. The entry-level model from Audi's 'Q line-up' in the Indian market was first showcased at the 2018 Paris Motor Show.
The next-generation Q3 draws design inspiration from Audi's flagship Q8 SUV. The new Audi Q3 looks sharper and muscular than before. It also comes with sharper shoulder lines and creases, as compared to the current model.
The new Audi Q3 is based on Volkswagen's MQB platform, which makes it 96mm longer, 18mm wider and 5mm lower than the first-gen model. The wheelbase is also longer by 77mm, as compared to the first-gen model.
The front fascia of the next-generation Q3 comes with a number of revisions. These include a new octagonal-shaped single-frame grille and a sleeker LED headlamp cluster with Daytime Running Lights (DRLs). The top-of-the-line variant features the Matrix LED headlights with adaptive high beam to illuminate the road.
At the rear the 2020 Audi Q3 will feature a spoiler with integrated brake light similar to the one equipped in the Audi Q8 SUV. The tail lamps are bigger on the new Q3, as compared to the first-gen model. The new Audi Q3 gets new dual-tone alloy wheels which range from 17 to 20-inches, depending on the variant chosen.
The interiors of the new Q3 features a roomier cabin because of the new platform. Apart from that, the boot now features an adjustable floor and is capable of holding 675 litres. The rear seats can be folded in a 40:20:40 split, expanding the boot space up to 1,525 litres.
It features a new dashboard design, with a new touchscreen infotainment system and a new climate control unit. The air-con vents are redesigned to look modern and in line with the futuristic cabin design. The new-gen model also features a host of driver assistance equipment including, an adaptive cruise control, park assist, lane departure warning, and blind spot monitoring.
The new Q3 comes in various engine and transmission configurations. The model currently sold in India is offered with two engine options: a 1.4-litre TFSI petrol engine producing 148bhp and 250Nm of torque and a 2.0-litre TDI engine with two states-of-tune. The lower-spec engine produces 150bhp and 340Nm of torque and the higher-spec engine produces 184bhp and 380Nm of torque.
The petrol engine comes mated to a six-speed ‘S-tronic' dual-clutch automatic transmission and the diesel engines are offered with a seven-speed ‘S-tronic' dual-clutch automatic transmission. The Q3 variants with higher-spec diesel engine are offered with Audi's ‘quattro' permanent all-wheel drive system.
Audi has many models in their pipeline including the new A6 and A8 sedans, which are scheduled for launch in September and December, respectively. The company is also considering launching their flagship SUV the Audi Q8 in the Indian market. The launch of the Audi Q8 will probably happen before the Q3's launch.
Thoughts About The Next-Gen Audi Q3 Launching In India
The updates that Audi Q3 has received makes the SUV look sportier and the revision to the cabin are also welcome. The new Audi Q3 once launched, will go up against the likes of the BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA. The Q3 with its revised interior and exterior is sure to have an upper hand over its rivals.
