MG Hector Sales In India For August Registers 2,018 Units: Production To Increase From September
MG Hector sales in India In August has registered 2,018 units in the market. The MG Hector was launched in India a couple of months ago and is the country's first 'Internet Car'. The model has been positioned in the highly competitive mid-size SUV segment and is available with a starting price of Rs 12.18 lakh, ex-showroom (India).
MG Motors has received over 28,000 bookings in India since its start, with an additional 11,000 customers registered on a priority waitlist. The company has currently stopped accepting bookings for the Hector temporarily in the market.
MG Motors also announced that they will be increasing production of the Hector SUV in India, starting this month. The production capacity at the company's plant will increase to 3000 units per month. The company is also said to be working closely with their parts suppliers to increase production in a gradual manner.
Gaurav Gupta, Chief Commercial Officer, MG Motor India, said,
"We are extremely overwhelmed with the response that the MG HECTOR has received. We remain strongly focused on fulfilling the 28,000 bookings, as part of our commitment to ensure customer satisfaction."
"The strong momentum for the HECTOR has continued with over 11,000 additional customers registered on our priority waitlist, after bookings were temporarily halted in July this year because of the huge response. We are working closely with our global and local suppliers to increase the HECTOR's production in a progressive manner."
The MG Hector is available in a range of four variants: Style, Super, Smart & Sharp. All variants of the SUV are offered with a choice of two engine options in the form of a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and 2.0-litre diesel.
The 1.5-litre turbo-petrol produces 143bhp and 250Nm of torque. It is mated to either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DCT automatic transmission. MG also offers the petrol engine with an optional 48V hybrid as well.
As for the diesel variants, the 2.0-litre unit is borrowed from Fiat and is the same engine which also powers the Tata Harrier and the Jeep Compass. The engine produces the same 173bhp and 350Nm of torque, as on the Jeep Compass. The engine is further mated to a standard six-speed manual gearbox. We recently drove the Hector and were thoroughly impressed — here is our detailed review.
