MG Hector Plus Name Registered For Third Row Seating: Will Rival The Upcoming Tata Gravitas
Chinese owned, British automaker MG Motor is said to be working on a six-seater variant Hector SUV. The upcoming SUV has been spotted multiple times testing on Indian roads. Now a government document reveals the six-seater SUV to be christened as 'Hector Plus'.
According to Rushlane, a patent filing document reveals that MG has trademarked the name ‘Hector Plus' for a six-seater SUV. Many manufacturers have used the Plus name to the existing name indicating an extended seater variant of the standard model.
The upcoming Hector Plus SUV, is expected to remain largely similar, and carry forward many features and equipment from the standard 5-seater Hector. We expect the six-seater variant to be longer by 40mm as compared to the standard Hector. This means more space for a proper boot as well. The Hector Plus is also expected to have a captain seats for the second row, although it can easily accommodate three people at the back with a bench style seat.
The biggest change apart from the seating will be the inclusion of BSVI complaint powertrains. The Hector Plus will continue to feature the same engine options that are currently available in the Hector SUV, but will be made BS6 complaint. Currently, the engine options on the Hector are only BS4 compliant.
The engine options available on the Hector are the 1.5-litre turbo petrol producing 141bhp and 250Nm of torque, and a 2.0-litre turbo diesel churning out 168bhp and 350Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to either a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed DCT automatic transmission.
Apart from the above changes to the standard model, the Hector Plus will also be getting a revised front and rear design. This includes, redesigned headlights, updated tail-lamps, new bumper; among others. On the interior, the upcoming SUV is likely to feature i-Smart 2.0 internet connectivity that is featuring on the MG ZS EV.
We expect the Hector Plus to be priced between Rs 17 lakh to 20 lakh, to keep it competitive among the rivals. Once launched, the Hector Plus will rival against the likes of the upcoming 2020 XUV500 and Tata Gravitas.
Thoughts About The MG Hector Plus Name Registered
MG Motor is sure on a roll here, with the unveiling of their first all electric SUV to the Indian market. Alongside, the company is also working on an answer to the question that most of us were asking during the launch of Hector, why does it not have third row seats? With the Hector Plus name coming up on government documents, confirms the company's focus increasing towards developing a full size SUV with third row seats for the Indian market. Giving third row seating for the Hector makes sense and increases the practicality of the SUV as well.
