MG Hector Bookings Closed For 2019 — Receives 21,000 Bookings Since Start
MG Motors launched their first product in the Indian market recently, in the form of the Hector. Bookings for the Hector SUV began a month before its launch on 4th of June. The MG Hector is available with a starting price of Rs 12.18 lakh, ex-showroom (Delhi).
Since then, the MG Hector has managed to receive an overwhelming booking number of over 21,000. Now, to ensure customer satisfaction MG Motors has temporarily stopped accepting bookings in the Indian market.
Rajeev Chaba, President & MD, MG Motor India, stated,
"Our first product, MG HECTOR, has received an overwhelming response and we are unable to cater to such high initial demand. We are, therefore, closing bookings temporarily as this will help ensure timely and orderly deliveries for our customers who have shown tremendous confidence in MG. We are also working with our component suppliers to ramp up production in a gradual manner without any compromise on quality."
The bookings for the MG Hector has been stopped in order to meet the rising demands for the SUV. It will also allow MG Motors to deliver the SUV to customers who have already booked the vehicle in an orderly and timely manner.
According to the company, among the Hector variants available, 50 per cent of the bookings have been made for the top-two variants: Smart & Sharp.
MG manufactures the Hector at its Halol plant in Gujarat. The company is now working on increasing the production capacity up to 3,000 units per month to meet the demands in the market.
The MG Hector is positioned in the highly-competitive mid-size SUV segment, rivalling the likes of the Jeep Compass, Tata Harrier and the upcoming Kia Seltos. The MG Hector offers a host of features and equipment, while also being the country's first ‘Internet Car'.
The MG Hector is available in two engine options, a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol producing 143bhp and 250Nm of torque and a 2.0-litre diesel churning out 173bhp and 350Nm of torque. Both engines will come mated to a six-speed manual, with the diesel getting the additional seven-speed DCT as optional.
We recently drove the MG Hector before its Indian launch and were quite impressed with the SUV — here is our detailed review.
Thoughts On The MG Hector Bookings Being Closed Temporarily
The MG Hector is the first product from the Chinese-owned British brand in the Indian market. The Hector has managed to receive an extremely positive response in an otherwise dull market. The company will announce the restart of the booking for the Hector very soon.
