Five And Seven Seater Mercedes GLB Revealed — They ‘Handle’ Family And Friends!
German auto giant Mercedes Benz has revealed the GLB SUV after it showcasing near-production prototype in China during April 2019. The prototype was shown as a more rugged version of the final car and featured off-road bias tyres, auxiliary lamps, contrasting door handles and ORVMs, and a different bash plate on the front bumper.
The production-spec GLB (which is available in both five seat and seven seat iterations) has been showcased in two variants — Edition 1, and a regular model. The Edition 1 looks more like the concept car in terms of looks at the outside, and the inside.
The Mercedes Benz GLB Edition 1 features contrasting roof and ORVMs, and also a different set of alloy wheels when compared to the regular model. The front bumper and grille of the new car feature a makeover. Cosmetic differences at the rear are not as stark as those at the front, however the lower portion of the rear bumper that houses the two exhausts is different on both the cars.
Both the cars feature different interior set ups as well, but these differences are restricted to colour combination. While the Edition 1 features a black and brown cabin theme, the regular model features a black and grey interior scheme. The 'multi controls' on the steering wheel on the regular model are now brushed aluminium finished, and those on the Edition 1 appear to have a glossy black appearance.
The GLB is Mercedes' smallest SUV offering to feature seating for seven people. Mercedes Benz however, does not directly claim that the vehicle can seven adults. The carmaker does say that the GLB's rear row can comfortably seat two people who are at about 1.65mts in height.
The third row seating in the vehicle feature cup holders for the occupants, feature USB charging docks, and a storage compartment. The car also features foldable seats in order to increase boot space. Mercedes claims that the five seater GLB has a boot space of 560 litres, which is expandable to 1755 litres with the seats folded.
The GLB is available with an optional permanent all-wheel drive system, which Mercedes-Benz calls 4MATIC. The system features various drive modes to alter torque distribution. The 4MATIC setup is also features an Off-road Engineering Pack that adds an additional driving option that adapts to the engine's power delivery and the ABS.
Additionally, the Off-road Engineering Pack allows for the driver to see animated visuals of the car moving through terrain over the media display. It also features hill-start assistance and downhill speed regulation for better control. Owners who opt for the add on get a set of off-road lights with Multibeam LED headlamps.
