McLaren Senna GTR Unveiled. McLaren Automotive has just revealed the production-spec version of its latest and most-powerful ultimate series hypercar yet, the Senna GTR. The McLaren Senna GTR concept was first showcased a year ago at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.

McLaren has also stated that only 75 units of the Senna GTR will be manufactured; all of which have already been booked, with deliveries starting in September 2019. The McLaren Senna GTR is said to be more-track focussed car than the P1 GTR and is the second quickest around the company's test track, after their F1 car.

The Senna GTR is the latest addition to McLaren's 'Ultimate Series', comprising of the Senna and the Speedtail. The hypercar carries forward the 'Senna' nameplate, honouring McLaren's three-time World F1 Champion, Ayrton Senna.

The design of the McLaren Senna GTR carries forward the extreme track-focussed nature of the hypercar. The Senna GTR now offers 200kg more downforce than its road-legal version. The Senna GTR now features a wider front track, large front splitters, n active rear wing and a unique bolted on rear diffuser.

These additional aerodynamic changes provide the Senna GTR with a maximum downforce of 1000kg - 400kg more than the P1 GTR. Under braking as well, the GTR version is capable of 3G's of decelerative forces, which is 20 per cent more than the road-legal Senna.

The McLaren Senna GTR carries forward the same carbon fibre monocoque from the road-legal Senna model. However, the dry weight of the GTR is 10kg less; mainly due to the absence of road-specific kits such as airbags, handbrake and exhaust mufflers. It also comes with the use of plexiglass, which further helps reduce the overall weight of the track-focussed hypercar.

Mike Flewitt, Chief Executive Officer, McLaren Automotive, stated:

"The McLaren Senna GTR is a perfect example of our determination to bring our customers the Ultimate expression of track driving performance and excitement. The McLaren Senna was designed from the outset to be an extreme track car, but the 2018 McLaren Senna GTR Concept suggested how much more further we could go and now, free from the constraints of road car legislation and motorsport competition rules, we have pushed the limits of what is technically possible to advance circuit driving capability to another level entirely."

The McLaren Senna GTR uses the same 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine. This has been tuned to provide a higher output of 814bhp and 800Nm of peak torque. This translates to a 25bhp increase in power output, compared to the standard model.

The Senna GTR has achieved the higher power output by removing the secondary catalyst to reduce back pressure while also using engine control recalibration. The weight of the Senna GTR is 1,188kg, giving it a power-to-weight ratio of 636bhp-per tonne.

The powertrain on the McLaren Senna GTR is offered with three driver modes - Wet, Track and Race. The GTR version uses the same transmission as on the standard Senna model; a seven-speed plus reverse seamless Shift Gearbox (SSG), with launch control functions.

Thoughts On The McLaren Senna GTR
