2019 Maruti Wagon R CNG Prices Revealed – More Afforable Than The Hyundai Santro
India's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki launched the all-new 2019 Wagon R in January 2019. Missing at the time of the launch was the CNG-powered version of the tallboy Wagon R hatchback.
Now, a new video on Youtube posted by Ujjwal Saxena has revealed that Maruti will launch two versions of the CNG-powered Wagon R in India which will only be made available with the base LXi model and the 1.0-litre petrol engine. According to the youtube video, the Maruti Wagon R CNG will be available in LXi and LXi (O) trim levels with the former priced at around Rs 4.85 lakhs and the latter coming in at Rs 5,000 dearer with a price tag of Rs 4.90 lakhs. This makes the base CNG variant of the Maruti Wagon R nearly Rs. 75,000 more expensive than the regular petrol-powered version of the hatchback.
However, the new Maruti Wagon R CNG is a whole lot more affordable than its newly returned rival — the Hyundai Santro. Prices for the Hyundai Santro CNG start at Rs 5.23 lakhs with the higher-specced model commanding a price tag of Rs 5.64 lakhs. The new Wagon R CNG will be only offered in three colour options when it launches – Superior White, Silky Silver, and Magma Grey.
The new Wagon R will only be offered with Maruti's K10B 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine which in petrol guise produces 67bhp at 5,500rpm and 90Nm of torque at 3,500rpm. The engine comes paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox that sends power to the front wheels. The CNG variant of the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is expected to be slightly down on power compared to its petrol-powered siblings and it too will only be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Maruti Wagon R CNG is not expected to be offered with an automatic transmission.
The new Maruti Wagon R CNG is not the only alternative fuel car that Maruti is currently working on. There are reports that the carmaker is also working on a CNG version of the second-generation Ertiga MPV which arrived last year. Also on the cards is the all-electric version of the Wagon R, which will be launched in India next year.
