Maruti Suzuki Launches BS-VI Compliant Swift And Wagon R

Maruti Suzuki India has very quietly rolled out Bharat Stage-VI (BS6) compliant engines in their Swift petrol and Wagon R 1.2 car models. In fact, the Swift that feature the BS-VI compliant engine, is also compliant with the AIS-145 Safety Norms, meaning it offers better crash protection and more standardized safety features.

These features include dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensor, seat belt reminder, high-speed alert, among others. Based on the updates, prices of both the BS6 compliant Maruti Suzuki Swift and Wagon R 1.2 petrol have been increased, as expected.

Maruti Launches BS-VI Compliant Swift And Wagon R

Both the Maruti Suzuki Swift and the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R 1.2 are powered by the same, BS-VI compliant, 1.2-litre K12B petrol engine that produces 83bhp of power and 115Nm of torque. The 1.2-litre K12B petrol engine was first seen on the Maruti Suzuki Baleno facelift that was launched during the January of this year. Both the Swift petrol and the Wagon R 1.2 feature the same transmission options as well — a 5-speed manual transmission, and an optional AMT or Auto Gear Shift (AGS) unit.

There are no cosmetic changes made to both the cars and they will continue to look the same in terms of design, and in terms of features.

Maruti Suzuki India is among the auto manufacturers to introduce BS-VI compliant engines in the country. In addition, the launch has happened much before the April 1, 2020 deadline.

Maruti Launches BS-VI Compliant Swift And Wagon R

While we still have no confirmation about variant wise prices of both cars, we expect the BS-VI compliant Maruti Suzuki Swift to be priced between Rs 5.10 lakh and Rs 8.90 lakh, and the BS-VI complaint Wagon R 1.2 petrol between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 6 lakh. As always, prices mentioned are ex-showroom (India).

Thoughts About Maruti Suzuki Launching The BS-VI Complaint Engine Before The April 2020 Deadline

Fantastic job by Maruti Suzuki. The company made a statement earlier this year that they would phase out all diesel models from it's fleet starting April 2020, but very quietly worked on a BS-VI complaint engine and launched it as well. This move will help Maruti Suzuki fine tune their production lines, costs, and any glitches the all new engine has, and we feel they will have the best available BS-VI complaint engines before the deadline.
