Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch its all-new premium six-seater MPV, the XL6 in the Indian market on the 21st of August. The new Maruti Suzuki XL6 comes with a number of changes over the standard Ertiga MPV; on which it is based.
The new Maruti Suzuki XL6 will be based on the same platform as the Ertiga and will even carry forward the same engine specs. This is in the form of a 1.5-litre BS-VI compliant petrol engine, which debuted on the Ertiga recently. This engine produces 104bhp and 138Nm of torque; mated to either a five-speed manual or a four-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.
Having said this, here are some of the major differences between the Maruti XL6 and Ertiga MPV.
The Maruti Suzuki XL6 will come with a number of external updates in terms of design and styling. However, most of the updates will be at the front of the MPV. The new XL6 will feature a newly designed black grille up front with a thick chrome strip running across it at the centre. The new grille is flanked on either side, by a set of updated headlamp clusters.
The new headlamp cluster is now available with projector lamps and integrated LED DRLs. These Daytime Running Lights are styled in a way to become an extension of the chrome strip running across the width of the front grille. come with projector lamps as well as LED DRLs integrated with the chrome strip from the grille.
The side profile will remain mostly the same, although we can expect the Maruti XL6 to sport a newly designed set of alloy wheels, while the roof rails add to the premium appeal of the new MPV. The rear profile will also come with minimal changes. This includes updated LED taillights, along with a slightly updated bumper as well.
Interiors & Features
Most of the differences between the Maruti XL6 and Ertiga is in the interiors. The new Maruti Suzuki XL6 comes with a completely blacked-out cabin. This includes black materials on the dashboard, centre console, steering wheel and black leatherette upholstery. However, there are some silver elements all around, which add a bit of contrast to the interiors.
The XL6 also features Maruti Suzuki's latest SmartPlay infotainment system, which offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a host of other functionalities as well. The steering also comes mounted with controls for the audio system and calls.
Other features expected on the Maruti Suzuki XL6 also include climate control, keyless entry, push-button start-stop, cruise control, ABS with EBD, engine immobiliser, multiple airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts and many more as well.
However, the most important difference between the two MPVs is the second row of seats. The Maruti Suzuki XL6 comes with individual captain seats in the second row; replacing the bench seats on the Ertiga. These captain seats come with individual armrests and offer more comfort and padding than the standard seats.
The new Maruti Suzuki XL6 is based on the same platform as the Ertiga. This is the brand's HEARTECT platform, which is also available on other models such as the Swift, Dzire, Ignis and Baleno. However, Maruti Suzuki have still managed to increase the dimensions of the XL6 slightly, although the wheelbase and the turning radius remain the same.
The new Maruti Suzuki XL6 measures 4,445mm in length, 1,775mm in width and 1,700mm in height. This makes it 50mm longer, 40mm wider and 10mm taller than the Ertiga MPV. The wheelbase and turning radius are the same at 2,740mm and 5.2-metres, respectively.
The upcoming Maruti Suzuki XL6 is a premium product from the brand in the Indian market. Hence, the XL6 premium six-seater MPV will be sold through the company's Nexa dealerships across the country. The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, however, will continue to be sold through the company's regular Arena showrooms.
The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is available with a starting price of Rs 7.54 lakh while the top-spec variant goes up all the way to 11.20 lakh. Both prices are ex-showroom (Delhi). The premium XL6 once launched in India will be priced slightly higher and is expected to be at least around Rs 1 lakh more than the standard Ertiga MPV.
Thoughts On The Maruti Suzuki XL6 Vs Ertiga MPV
The Maruti Suzuki XL6 is a brand-new premium MPV offering from the Indian carmaker. However, with the company facing a decline in sales in the country, it will be interesting to see how the XL6 will help Maruti Suzuki to improve its sales in the country. Once launched in India, the Maruti Suzuki XL6, like the Ertiga will rival the Mahindra Marazzo and the Toyota Innova Crysta.
