Maruti Prices Increase Across Range — Additional Cost For Mandatory HSRP
Maruti Suzuki has hiked prices for its entire range of products in the Indian market. The increase in prices on the Maruti products is due to the addition of the mandatory High Security Registration Plates (HSRP). All Maruti products will now face a hike in prices by Rs 689.
The Indian government mandated the addition of the high security number plates on all vehicles sold after the 1st April 2019. The new number plates on vehicles comes with a number of security features — read more about it here.
The price hike will affect all Maruti Suzuki products sold in the country; from the entry-level Alto hatchback to the S-Cross sold exclusively through the premium NEXA dealerships. This includes products from a price range of Rs 2.67 lakh (Alto 800) to Rs 11.48 lakh (S-Cross). All prices are ex-showroom (Delhi).
Maruti Suzuki recently updated their popular Ciaz sedan in the market, with the brand-new 1.5-litre diesel engine. The new diesel engine on the Ciaz has been developed in-house and will replace the older 1.3-litre Multijet unit, sourced from Fiat.
The new engine is said to be much smoother, refined and more efficient than the outgoing diesel unit. The new diesel engine is said to offer a mileage of 26.8km/l and is offered without Maruti's mild-hybrid system. Currently, the new engine is BS-IV compliant, however, this will be upgraded to BS-VI norms, closer to the emissions deadline.
Maruti has also confirmed that the new diesel engine will also make its way onto other products as well. This includes the S-Cross and the recently launched Ertiga MPV. The Maruti Ciaz with the new diesel engine is offered with a starting price of Rs 9.97 lakh for the base variant while the top-spec trim is offered at Rs 11.37 lakh. Apart from the new diesel engine, Maruti is said to be currently working on the next-generation Alto hatchback as well. The new Maruti Alto has been spied testing on multiple occasions in the country. The new entry-level hatchback will be based on the Future S Concept showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo.
The new Maruti Alto will come with a SUV-stance similar to one of its main rivals in the Indian market, the Renault Kwid.
Thoughts On The Maruti Suzuki Price Hike
The increase in prices of the Maruti Suzuki products in the Indian market is a minor update. The price hike is mainly to cover the additional cost of the high security number plates on the vehicles sold henceforth.
