Maruti Alto K10 Launched With New Safety Features — Prices Start At Rs 3.65 Lakh
India's largest automaker Maruti Suzuki has updated the Alto K10 to meet the new AIS-145 safety norms that went into effect this month. Prices for the updated Maruti Alto K10 now start at Rs 3.65 lakh for the base LX model and go all the way up to Rs 4.44 lakh (all prices mentioned are ex-showroom, Delhi) for the top-of-the-line VXi(O) variant. Prices for the Alto K10 in other parts of the country range from 3.75 lakh to Rs 4.54 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom).
The new AIS-145 safety norms state that all new vehicles sold in India must sport safety features like ABS with EBD, driver airbag, reverse parking sensors, driver and co-driver seatbelt reminder a speed alert system and a manual override for the central locking system as standard. Maruti has updated the Alto K10 with these features to help its entry-level 1.0-litre hatchback comply with the new norms. Previously, the driver airbag was offered as an option on the top-spec variant of the Alto K10.
Other than the updated safety norms, nothing else has changed on the new Alto K10 from Maruti Suzuki. This means that the entry-level hatchback continues to draw power from a 998cc, four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 67bhp at 6,000rpm and 90Nm of peak torque at 3,500rpm. The engine is offered with 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox options. The Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 returns a mileage of 24.07km/l.
The Alto K10 is not the first car this month from Maruti Suzuki to be updated to meet the new AIS-145 safety norms. Maruti Suzuki recently launched the upgraded Eeco van in India with the new safety features that have become mandatory for cars from April 1, 2019.
The new safety features are expected to keep the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 running on Indian roads till at least March 31, 2020 after which new BS-VI emission laws come into effect. Maruti Suzuki is working on an all-new version of the Alto which will be based on the Concept Future-S which was unveiled at the Auto Expo 2018 last year. The new Alto lineup will feature a more upright design influenced by SUVs to take advantage of that particular body style which is extremely popular in the Indian car market today.
