Mahindra XUV500 BS-VI Seen Testing — Expected Launch Early 2020
All automobile manufacturers are in the process of upgrading their engines to make them complaint with the new BS-VI norms that will come in to effect on 1 April 2020. India based car manufacturer Mahindra has also started upgrading their diesel engine line-up.
The company will discontinue its smaller diesel engines that are featured on the KUV100. We now have new images of the Mahindra XUV500 BS-VI that has been running tests. An interesting point to note is that the fuel cap of the vehicle sports a BS-VI badge.
While the car in question looks identical to the current model, most of the changes will be under the bonnet. The vehicle is expected to feature a new powerful diesel engine that is featured on the 2019 SsangYong Korando. This is an all new 2.0-litre diesel engine.
We expect that the 2.2-lire mHawk diesel engine from Mahindra lineup will be replaced with the new 2.0-litre engine, and it will available with three different states of tuning. Power figures for the Mahindra XUV500 BS-VI are likely to be bumped up to 185bhp from the existing 155bhp.
We also expect a significant increase in torque, the current set up limiting it to 360Nm. Reports also reveal that the all new 2.0-litre diesel engine is 80 kg lighter than the 2.2-litre mHawk that is currently featured in the TUV300 Plus, the Scorpio, and the XUV500.
The new engine will also be seen on the upcoming Thar 700, albet with different power figures. The vehicle is scheduled to be showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. The all-new Mahindra Thar 700 is based on a new platform and even carries basic safety features like ABS with EBD, dual front airbags, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX, seat belt reminders and high-speed alert system as standard.
Once the BS-VI engine comes, the prices for the Mahindra XUV500 is likely to be increased by Rs 90,000 or more. The Mahindra XUV500 competes with the Tata Harrier, the Jeep Compass, the Hyundai Creta, the new MG Hector, and the upcoming Kia Seltos. The Mahindra XUV500 currently retails between Rs 12.31 lakh and Rs 19.72 lakh, ex-showroom (India).
Thoughts About The BS-VI Complaint Mahindra XUV500
The XUV500 has done really well for Mahindra and we expect the new engine to increase demand for the popular SUV. Mahindra has always been on top of the game as far as upgrades are concerned, and we expect nothing less from the manufacturer. We cannot wait to test the new engine out!
