Mahindra Stops Production Of TUV300 Automatic — Five Speed Manual Option Only

Mahindra has recently gave the TUV a mid-cycle facelift. The facelift TUV300 features a revised X-shaped wheel cover, piano black grille with chrome inserts, smoked out headlamps with DRLs, new body cladding, and a clear lens tail lamps. What the vehicle is missing, is the option of an automatic gearbox. This has been removed from the company's website as well.

The AMT gearbox was offered on the TUV300 T8 and T10 variants. Going forward, a standard 5-speed manual transmission will be available across all the five trims. The Indian auto manufacturer is said to have discontinued the automatic option because of less demand.

The interiors of the TUV300 car remains more or less the same with the update but gets new silver accents. The car also features micro-hybrid technology, static bending headlamps and a GPS-enabled touchscreen infotainment system.

However, Mahindra is expected to launch an automatic variant of the XUV300. Both the TUV300 and XUV300 cater to different audiences, and the XUV300 is preferred in the urban markets. If the XUV300 is offered in an automatic variant, it will be a much more appealing product, considering it is already feature rich. This offering will help make XUV300 a stronger competitor to the recently launched Hyundai Venue.

The Mahindra TUV300 is powered by a 1.5-litre mHawk100 diesel engine that produces 100bhp of power @ 3,750 RPM, and 240Nm of torque between 1,600 and 2,800 RPM. As is, the vehicle is available with a 5-speed manual transmission.

Thoughts About Mahindra Pulling The Plug On The TUV300 AMT

Good move by Mahindra. There is no point offering what does not sell. Mahindra ha always cut their losses faster than most other manufacturers in the country.

Having said that, we feel automatics are a much better offering for the Indian market. Most Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities have high traffic density, and are infamous for bumper to bumper traffic. Automatics work better and we feel they are lesser stress on the driver.

Hopefully Mahindra will deliver the XUV300 AMT soon. It will awesome to review the variant.
