Mahindra's KUV100 did not do very well even though it was a fairly good looking crossover with a spacious cabin. Mahindra is now trying to resurrect the KUV100, and give the micro crossover a new life. An electric variant of the little SUV was spotted recently, and spy pics taken by Lemon Green Studios are now doing the rounds.

Mahindra stopped production of the e2O and e2O Plus because these electric vehicle were non compliant with the new safety norms that kick in soon. The company will let the Mahindra KUV100 electric variant shoulder responsibility of spearheading the company's EV offensive.

The e-KUV100 is currently close to it's production-spec and we know that a few prototypes have been spotted while testing in the dark. We can tell from the charging sockets located on the front fenders that the e-KUV is equipped with regular AC socket charging and DC fast charging. Gives away the nature of powertrain, doesn't it?

While final specs of the Mahindra e-KUV could see some changes, we're sure the electric vehicle will feature an improved powertrain sub-system compared to the ones that featured on the e2O. The components are also expected to be different from the ones that power the e-Verito.

The Mahindra e-KUV is expected to feature a motor that produces 40kW and 120Nm of peak torque. Rumor has it that a 16 kWh battery pack will be the source of electricity. We estimate that a fully charged battery will offer about 120 kilometers on the range meter, although we expect a battery with a longer range in the future.

Mahindra has tweaked the suspension and steering system to compensate for the additional weight the battery adds, but the shape of the floor, cabin space, and boot space remain the same.

We expect that the all-new Mahindra e-KUV will feature changes to the exteriors and the interiors in order to stand out from the internal combustion engine variants. Also in expectation is that Mahindra prices the vehicle on the affordable side of things.

We hope that Mahindra retails the e-KUV at about the Rs 12 lakh mark. The price, along with the incentives and many benefits the government is offering will allow for the micro SUV to do well, and we expect that it will give the Maruti WagonR electric a run for its money.

Thoughts About The Mahindra e-KUV Spotted While Testing

Mahindra seems to be pulling off a Batman. Testing a vehicle in the night is some next level stuff. Obviously the company wants to keep the e-KUV out of the prying and forever searching eyes of the media, but that isn't meant to be.
