Lotus Evija Electric Hypercar Unveiled — Time Travel Is Almost Here!
British car manufacturer Lotus has revealed its first all-electric hypercar Evija in London. First of all, it's the company's first in-house all-electric car and has also been claimed to be the most powerful series-production road car.
Speaking about the Lotus Evija, Phil Popham, CEO, Lotus Cars, said, "The Lotus Evija is a car like no other. It will re-establish our brand in the hearts and minds of sports car fans and on the global automotive stage. It will also pave the way for further visionary models."
The Lotus Evija has been built on an ultra-lightweight carbon fibre monocoque frame, which makes this electric hypercar the lightest production EV hypercar in the world. The car weighs only 1,680 kg as claimed by the company.
Phil also stated, "This is another amazing moment in the history of our company. The Evija is a true Lotus in every sense - it has been developed with an unwavering passion to push boundaries, to explore new ways of thinking and to apply ground-breaking technologies."
There has been some aggressive bodywork done to the Evija. As far as the active aerodynamics is concerned, it features an F1-style Drag Reduction System with a deployable rear spoiler. Moreover, there are no fixed side-mirrors and little cameras deploy from the front fenders and another camera embedded in the rear of the roof that provides a rearview.
The EV produces 1973bhp of power and 1700Nm of torque! Well, if that is not enough for a road-going car then I dunno what is. Also, the hypercar has a top speed of over 320km/h and it can reach 0-100km/h in less than 3 seconds. It takes the Ejiva 9 seconds to reach 300km/h mark from a standstill.
On a full charge, the EV can run up to 400kms as claimed by Lotus. It also comes loaded with a fast charging technology, through which the batter can be fully charged in only 18 minutes. Lotus Evija is priced from £1.7m, plus duties and taxes. Also, buyers have to deposit £250,000 to secure a production slot and it is limited to 130 units only.
Russell Carr, Design Director, Lotus Cars, said, "We studied how Le Mans race cars use airflow creatively to go over, under and around the vehicle, but also through it. This concept of ‘porosity' is key to the Evija and has enabled us to create a timeless design with exceptional amounts of downforce."
The battery pack of the Lotus Evija will be mid-mounted behind the two seats and it generates power directly to four powerful e-motors, mounted to each wheel. Moreover, the Evija gets five different driving modes - Range, City, Tour, Sport and Track.
