Lamborghini India Sales Going Strong — 45 Models Sold In 2018; Urus Is The Game Changer
Lamborghini India sales doing well. 45 Lamborghini models sold in India in 2018. Company expects 50% sales growth in 2018.
Lamborghini India is doing considerably well on the upper spheres of the Indian automotive market. The Italian supercar marque sold 45 units in India last year (quite a high figure in the segment) and aims to attain a sales growth of at least 50 per cent, by the end of 2019. The Lamborghini Urus SUV is the brand's trump card.
TOI reports that Lamborghini India is not only doing well in developed or metropolitan markets, but also in smaller areas such as Ludhiana, Bhubaneswar, Kanpur, Indore, Hubli and Surat. Currently, the company has three dealerships in India: Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.
As mentioned before, Lamborghini India sold 45 models in India back in 2018; compared to 26 units in 2017. The growth in demand is robust since the very beginning of 2019 as well. The Lamborghini Urus is regarded as the game changer since it is essentially the most practical and daily-usable model from the brand yet. The Indian automotive community has always been a fan of premium SUVs and the Urus brings the most of luxury, style and performance.
The brand sells all three products available in its global portfolio: Urus, Huracan and Aventador; with a base price starting from at least Rs 3 crore. Sharad Agarwal, Head of Lamborghini India, shared that the company is not going after volume sales, but consistency in growth.
By global standards, India is still a niche market. Lamborghini recorded a worldwide sales figure of 5,750 units last year, in which 1301 units were sold in the Asia-Pacific. However, the company is still confident in the Indian market. For the same reason, all the recent models introduced by the brand (Aventador SVJ, Huraan Evo, etc.) have made their debut in India within a very short period after the global unveiling.
Still, the ultra-premium automotive segment in India faces its own set of challenges. "The level of taxation (import duty) remains high. And, even though we may live with that, a major irritant is the sudden change in taxation. We need consistency, " stated Matteo Ortenzi, CEO of Lamborghini Asia-Pacific.

Thoughts On Lamborghini India's Sales Performance
There was a time when supercars accounted for a minute portion on the Indian market, but things have changed considerably in the past few years. Besides showing interest in the brand's regular line-up, customers are also going for exclusive or limited-production products; the new Lamborghini Aventador SVJ63 being an example.
