2019 Geneva Motor Show: Koenigsegg Jesko Unveiled — The 1,578bhp Hypercar From Sweden

Koenigsegg Jesko unveiled at the ongoing 2019 Geneva Motor Show. The Swedish hypercar manufacturer has unveiled its latest creation, the Jesko.

Koenigsegg Automotive has unveiled their latest creation, the 1,578bhp Jesko hypercar. The Koenigsegg Jesko was unveiled at the ongoing 2019 Geneva Motor Show by the company's Founder and CEO, Christian Von Koenigsegg.

The latest hypercar has been named after the Founder's father, Jesko Von Koenigsegg. The hypercar effectively replaces the Agera in the company's lineup. However, the Jesko is based on an all-new platform with slightly increased dimensions as well.

The Koenigsegg Jesko is powered by 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine producing 1280bhp on regular petrol and 1,578bhp on E85 biofuel. The Jesko also produces 1,500Nm of peak torque at 5,100rpm, out of which 1000Nm of torque is available right from 2,700rpm all the way up to 6,170rpm.

To further improve performance, the Jesko also comes with a large rear-mounted dynamic, twin-step rear wing. It also comes with an enlarged front splitter with active and individual aero inlets on the underbody. These aerodynamic enhancements, provide the Jesko with a maximum downforce of 1000kg at 275km/h.

The engine is mated to Koenigsegg's new nine-speed Light Speed Transmission (LST). This is the second transmission unit to be completely developed in-house by the Swedish hypercar manufacturer; following the Direct Drive System seen on the Regera.

The LST comes with nine forward gears with several wet, multidisc clutches packed compactly together. The multi-disc set up allows for simultaneous opening and closing of clutches during upshifts and downshifts, offering a seamless acceleration or deceleration.

The Koenigsegg Jesko is made up of a complete carbon fibre monocoque structure with a dry weight of just 1,200kg. Koenigsegg has also used 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels made up of lightweight forged aluminium with central locking. The Jesko also offers the optional Aircore super light carbon fibre wheels as well for additional weight reduction.

The Koenigsegg Jesko also comes with a host of equipment on the inside. This includes four smart airbags, power assisted carbon-ceramic brakes with Sport ABS, Koenigsegg's safety cell with integrated crumple zone, adjustable pedals and steering column, detachable lightweight roof, Alcantara interiors with custom contrast stitching, 'Bird's eye-view' parking assistance, climate control, carbon sport bucket seats and a host of others.

Koenigsegg is yet to reveal any actual acceleration or top speed figures for the Jesko. However, they did confirm that the hypercar will be available in two variants — one for track use and the other for straight-line speed.

The second variant is pegged to break the 300mph (483km/h) barrier. If the Jesko does cross the 300mph speed, it will become the world's fastest road-legal hypercar in the world. It will beat the record set by the Koenigsegg Agera RS, two years ago.

Thoughts On The Koenigsegg Jesko Hypercar

The Koenigsegg Jesko was a surprise unveiling at the ongoing Geneva Motor Show. However, there are rumours that Koenigsegg is already working on an even more powerful version of the Jesko, dubbed the Jesko 300. However, there is no mention of any timeline for its introduction yet.
