Kia Seltos — Top Things To Know About India’s Most-Awaited SUV Of 2019
Kia Motors India has launched its first product in the country, with the Seltos SUV. The Kia Seltos is now available with a starting price of Rs 9.69 lakh. The top-spec variant of the Kia Seltos is priced at Rs 15.99 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom (India). Kia also claimed that the company has already received over 32,000 bookings for the Seltos, with deliveries said to begin immediately.
Positioned in the highly-competitive mid-size SUV segment, the Kia Seltos will take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV500, MG Hector and the Jeep Compass — here is a brief comparison of the Seltos with its rivals in the segment.
Having said this, here are some of the top things to know about the upcoming Kia Seltos:
Power & Torque
The Kia Seltos is powered by three BS-VI compliant engine options, each with different power and torque outputs. The first is a 1.5-litre petrol producing 115bhp and 144Nm of torque; second is a 1.5-litre diesel churning out 115bhp and 250Nm of torque. The third engine comes in the form of a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol putting out 140bhp and 242Nm of peak torque.
All three engines are mated to a standard six-speed manual gearbox. Kia also offers three different automatic transmission options, this includes a CVT and IVT choices for the 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines. The 1.4-litre petrol, on the other hand, is offered with a seven-speed DCT gearbox.
Top Speed & Acceleration
With the Kia Seltos just launched in the Indian market, we are yet to receive the official top speed and accelerations figures of the India-spec SUV. However, based on the engine specifications and the performance of its rivals, we have made some assumptions.
The 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines on the Kia Seltos should be able to offer a top speed of around 170km/h on the Seltos. The more powerful 1.4-litre turbo-petrol however, should power the SUV to a top speed of around 185km/h. Acceleration times for the three engines on the Seltos should be in the range of 11 to 13 seconds for a 0 - 100km/h sprint.
*Again, these figures are only assumptions at this time. Official top speed and acceleration figures will be available at a later stage.
Mileage & Fuel Tank Capacity
The Kia Seltos is said to offer extremely impressive mileage figures from its three engine options. Starting off with the 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine. The manual variant is said to offer 16.4km/l while the CVT variant returns a similar 16.3km/l.
The 1.5-litre diesel engine fairs slightly better, with the manual variant putting out 20.8km/l. The automatic variant, however, offers slightly less at 17.8km/l.
Coming to the most powerful option, the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol. Both the manual and automatic variants give out a similar 16.1km/l and 16.2km/l respectively.
The Kia Seltos is expected to come with a fuel tank capacity of around 60-litres; giving it a good range, avoiding the need to refuel too often.
Seating Capacity & Boot Space
The Kia Seltos is a five-seater SUV. The car can easily seat three adult passengers in the back seat, thanks to the high roof, providing enough headroom for the rear-seat passengers. There is also enough legroom as well.
In terms of boot-space, the Kia Seltos offers a capacity of 433-litre with the second-row of seats positioned upright. The rear seats, however, can be folded in a 60:40 split, further extending the luggage capacity for those long drives.
Overall Dimensions & Turning Radius
The Kia Seltos is a large SUV, longer and wider than its cousin, the Hyundai Creta. It also comes with a longer wheelbase, ensuring a more comfortable drive for the passengers. Here are the dimensions of the upcoming Kia Seltos:
- Length: 4,315mm
- Width: 1,800mm
- Height: 1,620mm
- Wheelbase: 2,610mm
The Kia Seltos also offers a turning radius of 5.3m, not bad considering its overall dimensions.
Ground Clearance & Tyre Size
The Kia Seltos rides on either 16-inch wheels (base-spec) or 17-inch wheels (top-spec). The 16-inch wheels come with a 205/60 tyre profile all around, while the top-spec variant with the 17-inch wheels has a tyre profile of 215/60.
The ground clearance of the Kia Seltos is 190mm, which is decent, however, not so impressive when compared to some of its rivals in the segment.
Colours & Variants
The Kia Seltos is available in a range of just two variants: Tech-Line and GT-Line. Both variants, however, are offered with a range of 12 external paint schemes: 8 single-tone and 4 dual-tone options.
The single-tone paint scheme offered on the Kia Seltos: Red, Orange, Glacier White, Clear White, Grey, Silver, Blue and Black.
Similarly, the dual-tone options on the SUV include Red/Black, Glacier White/Black, Silver/Black and Glacier White/Orange.
Thoughts On The Kia Setlos SUV In India
The Kia Seltos — one of the most-awaited SUVs in the country has finally been launched. The SUV will be manufactured at its plant situated in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh. Prices for the SUV are extremely competitive and is likely to take over the SUV segment very soon.
