Spy Pics: Jeep Compass Trailhawk Spotted Testing

American carmaker Jeep is currently hard at work putting the most rugged version of the Compass, which will bear the Trailhawk badge ahead of its launch in India. Now DriveSpark's roving automotive paparazzi crew has spied the Jeep Compass Trailhawk as it is put through its paces ahead of its launch later this year.

The spy images of the test mule for the new Jeep Compass variant easily gives away its identity thanks to that large black stripe that adorns the bonnet of the slightly camouflaged SUV. Another easy identifying mark that gives away the Trailhawk are the alloy wheels fitted to the SUV, which are rather different than the ones currently fitted onto Compass models already on sale in India.

However, this specific Compass Trailhawk seems to be testing some extra kit which at first is not visible except for those with a keen eye for the details. The front bumper houses a camera-like device, which could just be a camera (despite the rather weird position) or it may be an addition to help the front parking sensors. Missing though are the two tow hooks on either side of the bumper, though that could just be hidden under the heavily camouflaged bits of the front end of the Compass test vehicle.

The Trailhawk will be the top-spec model in the Jeep Compass India lineup when it arrives later this year. The Jeep Compass Trailhawk will not be getting an upgrade under the bonnet, where Jeep's trusty FCA 2.0-litre multijet diesel engine continues to churn out 171bhp @ 3,750rpm and 350Nm of torque @ 1,750 rpm. However, the engine will be paired with a brand new 9-speed automatic gearbox that will send power to all four wheels. Also new are the four-wheel low for the four-wheel-drive setup and a new Rock mode for the Selec-drive terrain response setup.

Other changes on the SUV include revised bumpers, which help increase the approach angle to 30 degrees and the departure angle to 33.6 degrees and raised ground clearance. Other changes include a sunroof and a larger infotainment screen on the inside.

The Jeep Compass Trailhawk is expected to make its debut in India in the near future (before the end of the financial year) and is expected to bear a price tag close to the Rs 25 lakh mark.
