Jaguar's New Sedan Range In The Works — What Could Replace The XE, XF And XJ?
Jaguar new sedan models in plans. Find all the details of the new Jaguar sedan model range of the future.
Jaguar is considering an all-new sedan range for the future. The British luxury car brand currently has three sedan models in its portfolio: XE, XF and XJ. Even though all three are good choices in their respective segments (the Jaguar XJ is a bit outdated compared to its competitors), Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) witnessed a major loss last business year.
Autocar India shares that the global sales of the Jaguar XE and XF were even outperformed by the company's all-electric I-Pace SUV. Both these sedans are available across all the major automotive markets in the world, including India, but the Jaguar I-Pace is still limited to a few countries.
It was confirmed earlier that Jaguar's sedan lineup will be receiving mid-life updates within a few months' time. However, new reports suggest that Jaguar will be replacing all its sedans with new models by the end of 2023. This could include electric or hybrid sedans as well. On the other hand, some others claim that the company will be merging the XE and XF into a single product; possibly with a range of variants including a hybrid format.
Last year, Hanno Kirner, Executive Director of Corporate and Strategy at JLR, stated that the company is seriously thinking of incorporating more electric or electrified products in its portfolio. Even an all-electric variant of the top-of-the-line Jaguar XJ sedan is in the plans. The Jaguar XJ rivals the Audi A8, BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
On the other hand, Land Rover is busy working on a 'Road Rover' series — a range of all-electric mass-production SUVs which will be hitting the market in the coming decade. As expected, it will share some components with the sister brand's I-Pace SUV.
Meanwhile, the Jaguar F-Pace, the first-ever SUV from Jaguar, could have an electric successor dubbed as the I-Type. The rumoured Jaguar I-Type would be a sporty offering aimed to rival the upcoming Porsche Taycan and the new Audi e-tron SUV. Other projects include EVs with a smaller frontal area and better aerodynamics; thereby reducing drag/load on the powertrain and increasing range.
Thoughts On The New Jaguar Sedan Range
At this point, not much is known about the proposed Jaguar sedan range for the coming decade. However, it is almost certain that a good majority of these products will be introduced in an electrified format. We hope that the company will consider making fast and loud performance-focussed petrol cars as well.
