Indian Wins McLaren 570S Spyder In Lucky Draw — Sells It To Start Business

Dubai is known for its many offers and lotteries. Almost everything has a lottery attached to it and the prizes are next level. While we are used to the 'win 50 lakh' phenomenon, Dubai's grand prizes are almost always fast and exotic cars.

According to Rushlane, an Indian worker in Dubai, Balvir Singh, renewed his identity registration for his local mobile number. What he did not know was the reward he was going to receive. The registration was in sync with UAE Registration Policies that requested customers to renew lapsed ID registration before 31 January 2019. Attached to the renewal was a lucky draw, and the winning prize - the McLaren 570S Spyder.

Balvir Singh hails from Punjab, India., and has been working at a solid surface manufacturing company in Ras Al Khaimah for 10 year now. He assumed it was a prank call he received when he was told he was the winner of the lucky draw. It took a while to convince him after which we're sure he was Extremely Happy, Shockingly Excited & Knocked-out. And rightly so for the car in question, the McLaren 570S Spyder carries a tag of Rs 1.50 crore.

Balvir however, is a simpleton. He works as a carpenter and does not possess a UAE drivers license. He struggles to make ends meet in the UAE with a monthly paycheck of AED 1,900 (Rs 36,000). He understood that owning and maintaining a McLaren 570S Spyder would probably cost him more than what he made. So he did what any one in his position would. He sold the Spyder and sent the money home.

The McLaren 570S Spyder is priced between AED 7.6 lakh and AED 9.0 lakh. That's an average of Rs 1.57 crore for the sports-car (of course there's the addition taxes and bribes one has to pay when importing). Balvir sold the car and sent an amount of AED 6.0 lakh (1.13 crore) back home. His plan is to start business back home and also buy himself a 'nice car' when he returns.

The McLaren 570S Spyder features a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine that produces 562bhp of power and 600Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a 7-speed Seamless Shift Gearbox (SSG). The sports-car does 0-100kmph in 3.2 seconds and touches a top speed of 328kmph.

Thoughts On Balvir Singh Winning And Selling The McLaren 570S Spyder

Wow! I personally do not know any one who has won more than '10 bucks off on your next purchase'. And while I was in Dubai all I won was '1 AED off on your next purchase'. Here's a dude who won a McLaren. A McLaren! And then, he sold it. But we get it. No drivers license and the inability to maintain and run a sports car were factors, but more importantly providing better lives for those back home were most on his mind. Good luck Balvir!
