Hyundai Could Offer The Verna & Elite i20 With A New Engine — Part Of Upcoming BS-VI Plans
Hyundai recently launched their first sub-four metre compact-SUV offering, the Venue in the Indian market. The new Hyundai Venue is offered with a starting price of Rs 6.50 lakh, ex-showroom (India).
The Venue is offered with three engine options; among them is an all-new powertrain. This is in the form of a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 120bhp and 172Nm of torque. It comes mated to either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Now, Hyundai is said to be planning on introducing this new powertrain onto their Verna and Elite i20 offerings as well. According to reports from Overdrive, the Korean brand is looking at offering both the Verna sedan and the Elite i20 premium hatchback with the turbo-petrol engine.
The Hyundai Verna and the Elite i20 currently offer larger 1.6-litre and 1.2-litre petrol engines, respectively. However, the smaller three-cylinder engine is still more powerful than either of the two engines. The 1.6-litre petrol on the Hyundai Verna produces 121bhp and 153Nm of torque. The 1.2-litre petrol on the Elite i20, on the other hand, churns out 84bhp and 115Nm of torque.
The 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine could however be tuned for a lower power output on the Elite i20 hatchback. Apart from the new petrol engine itself, Hyundai could also offer both the Elite i20 and the Verna with the seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox as well. However, this is yet to be confirmed at a later stage.
The Hyundai Venue which was launched in India last week, has already created quite a stir in the market. Bookings for the compact-SUV has already crossed over 17,000 units, with deliveries set to begin soon.
The Hyundai Venue is India's first connected car, debuting the brand's Blue Link Connectivity function, which itself offers 33 features (10 of which are specifically for the Indian market). Apart from that, the Hyundai Venue comes with the brand's latest design language including the twin headlamp cluster, cascading front grille and a host of others — here is everything you need to know about the Hyundai Venue.
The Hyundai Venue is available in a range of variants, each offering a bunch of features and equipment, including a number of segment-firsts — read the variant-wise feature list here.
Thoughts On The Hyundai Verna & Elite i20 Receiving The New Engine
The Hyundai Verna and the Elite i20 are popular offerings in their respective segments. Both models however are due for a facelift soon. Hyundai might offer the new engine with the facelift versions of both the models, prior to the upcoming emission norms deadline of April 2020.
