Hyundai To Introduce 1.5-litre Diesel Engine In Venue; To Be Launched Before BS-VI Deadline

The Hyundai Venue will be introduced with a new 1.5-litre diesel engine before April 2020, which is the deadline for adopting Bharat Stage VI emission norms.

The new diesel engine will comply with BS-VI emission norms and will come in two configurations:

  • 1.5-litre turbo diesel, 115bhp, 250Nm torque
  • 1.5-litre naturally aspirated, 90bhp, 220Nm torque
  • The details were confirmed by the company at the launch of the new Grand i10 Nios.

    The 1.4-litre diesel engine will be replaced by a 1.5-litre, BS VI engine. And this engine will be used by the i20 as well.

    Hyundai also confirmed, the 1.6-litre diesel engine that powers the Creta and Verna, will be replaced by a 1.5-litre VGT diesel engine before April 1, 2020.

    The Hyundai Venue is one of the first cars to offer internet connectivity with their in-house BlueLink technology. Other features include Cruise control, wireless phone charging, and an eight-inch touch screen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.

    The Venue is currently offered in three engine options:

    • 1-litre turbo-petrol
    • 1.2-litre petrol
    • 1.4-litre diesel

      The Venue offers safety features like six airbags, Hill-Assist Control, Vehicle Stability Management, Electronic Stability Control, a reverse parking camera with digital guidelines, and ABS with EBD to name a few.

      The Venue has grossed over 50,000 bookings within two months of its launch. Yet again the company has got the attention of Indian motorists by providing a feature-rich compact SUV. The competitor for Venue would be the Tata Nexon, the Mahindra XUV300 and the Maruti Vitara Brezza. With the upcoming facelift of Nexon things will only get interesting for the segment.

      Thoughts On The Hyundai Venue With the 1.5-litre Diesel Engine

      While we think that it is a good thing that Hyundai is offering a 1.5-litre option on the Venue, but we feel the engine is a little underpowered. 105bhp and above would have been a better amount of power to have. What's the point of a diesel engine if it underperforms?
