Hyundai Santro Scores Two Stars At Global NCAP Crash Tests: Details
The current-generation Hyundai Santro has been crash-safety tested by the Global NCAP, and has scored a grand total of two stars. The Global NCAP tested the Santro over the last weeks and the results scream unsafe.
According to the Global NCAP results, the Santro achieved two stars for adult occupant safety, and two stars for child occupant safety. Surprisingly, Hyundai offers only a driver's side frontal airbag as standard on the Santro. The vehicle's structure was rated as unstable.
The test results show that the vehicle's foot-well area is unstable. Head and neck protection for adult occupants was rated as good. Chest protection was weak for the driver, and marginal for the passenger, leading to a restriction of driver SBR points.
The vehicle has low child occupant safety, and the head of the test dummy (representing) a three-year old showed contact during the impact. The impact affected the neck of the test dummy.
The Santro offers standard driver SBR, but points were not considered for the final rating because of weak protection for the chest of the driver received weak protection. It is alarming that the Hyundai Santro does not offer three-point seat belts for all occupants.
The Hyundai Santro is available with a 1.1-liter petrol engine that produces 68bhp of power and 99Nm of torque. Transmission options include a five-speed manual and an AMT. Hyundai also offers a CNG variant that produces 59bhp of power and arrives with a five-speed manual and AMT transmission options.
The interiors feature a rear AC vent, which a first in segment offering. The top-spec models feature a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible.
Top-spec models also feature curtain airbags, ABS, EBD, and seat belt pre-tensioners as a standard. The vehicle is priced between Rs 4.20 lakh and Rs 5.75 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
Thoughts About The Two Star Rating
Wow! Shows just how much manufacturers care about safety. One of the largest manufacturers' in the country seems to running a scam as far as occupant safety is concerned. We think the Santro should be on sale only after it meets all safety standards.
