Electric vehicles are no longer the future, but are already here to stay. The Indian market is no stranger to EVs. It all started with the mass production of the Maini Reva back in 2001. For a while there was no progress made.

However, once the green mobility revolution began globally, Mahindra stepped in and took over the Reva brand to form Mahindra Electric. Tata Motors too produced the Tigor EV for commercial use. There are also several electric two-wheelers that were launched in India.

However it is the only electric car that has received such a response from the Indian audience. Hyundai claims to have received 120 confirmed customer bookings and over 10,000 requests for test drives within just 10 days of the Kona EV's launch.

The Hyundai Kona EV has put to rest a majority of apprehensions about electric vehicles. However, we are still lagging behind on infrastructure, but will get there too eventually. The Hyundai Kona has received such a warm welcome despite being so expensive.

We wonder how much faster the Indian consumers would adapt to electric vehicles, if they were cheaper. The government is working on just that and will soon reduce GST on electric vehicles from 12 percent to 5 percent.
