Honda E Powertrain Details Revealed — Features 50:50 Weight Distribution

Honda's first electric car, the Honda e, is expected to be built on a dedicated EV platform. The Japan based auto manufacturer has revealed some details of the new platform that the electric hatchback will be built on.

According to Team-BHP, Honda says the platform will feature 50:50 weight distribution, and a low center of gravity because the batteries will be housed under the floor and in the center of the platform.

The electric motor is designed so it fits on the rear axle, and also powers the rear wheels. Honda also revealed that the vehicle will feature independent suspension, built with forged aluminium to reduce weight.

The charging port of the Honda e has been integrated into the bonnet, and features an illuminated glass panel that shows the charging status of the battery. The car features a water-cooled 35.5 kWh Lithium-ion battery pack, and Honda claims it can travel a distance of 200 kilometers. The battery can be juiced via a Type 2 AC connection or a CCS2 DC rapid charger. Rapid charging allows for 80 per cent of juice in thirty minutes.

Honda claims that they have received 31,000 expressions of interest globally. They also say reservations and bookings can be made across the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Norway.

While the Honda e is expected to make a global appearance later this year, we have no information about an India launch.

Honda seems to have given a lot of thought to the design if the Honda e. A 50:50 weight distribution, along with the low center of gravity will definitely up the performance feel of the car. This will make for a fascinating drive. We can't wait to drive this electric vehicle, if it comes to India that is.

With Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India putting future investments on hold because of swift electrification of two-wheelers in the country, we assume that Honda cars will go the same way, so it may be some time before we see the Honda e in the flesh.
