Design

Starting off with the most noticeable changes, the design. The 2020 Honda City comes with a number of design changes, while still retaining certain styling elements, which help make it instantly recognisable as a City.

The new Honda City comes with a new front grille, with a thick chrome strip, similar to Amaze and the Civic models. Flanking either side of the grille are a pair of wrap-around LED projector headlamps with LED DRLs integrated into the cluster.

The side profile of the car comes with a prominent shoulder line, running across the length of the car. It starts from the headlamps and extends till the rear, neatly integrating with the taillights. The new Honda City also comes with a set of newly-designed diamond-cut alloy wheels.

The rear profile of the Honda City (2020) sedan comes with 3D taillamps with a wrap-around design. The taillights extends further to the side of the car than the previous-generation model. The bumper has also been updated, which now house a set of vertical reflectors at either end.

Moving to the interior, the new Honda City sedan now comes with a completely revamped cabin. It now features soft-touch materials all around, which give the car a more upmarket and premium feel. The new cabin also comes with a newly designed dashboard, with silver accents around the AC vents.

Engine Specifications

The new Honda City (2020) sedan is expected to carry forward the same 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines as on the current model. The new Honda City comes with a 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 117bhp and 145Nm of torque. It is further mated to a five-speed manual gearbox or the optional CVT automatic transmission.

The 1.5-litre diesel engine on the new Honda City churns out 99bhp and 200Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a six-speed manual, without the option of an automatic transmission.

There is no change in the engine power outputs between the current and the new Honda City. However, the engines on the fifth-generation sedan have been updated to comply with the latest BS-VI emission norms, set to be implemented from the 1st of April 2020.

Honda could also introduce the 1.5-litre petrol engine with mild-hybrid technology. Although, this is yet to be confirmed officially by the manufacturer.

Dimensions

The new Honda City (2020) sedan comes with larger overall dimensions compared to the outgoing model. The new City sedan is longer and wider than the previous-generation model. However, the height has been lowered slightly, while the wheelbase has also been reduced.

Looking at the above dimensions, the new fifth-generation sedan is 113mm longer and 53mm wider than the outgoing model. However, the new City sits 28mm lower to the ground while also having an 11mm shorter wheelbase.



Features

In terms of features, the new Honda City comes with a host of additional equipment. The fifth-generation city comes with a larger 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system which supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The car now comes with three rotary dials, replacing the digital controls for the HVAC. These rotary controls are more conventional and easy to use on-the-go.

The instrument cluster also comes with two analogue circular dials. This replaces the three circular dials from the outgoing model. The MID which was positioned on the right side of the instrument cluster has now been moved to the centre on the new sedan.



Other features also include new three-spoke steering with mounted controls for the audio and cruise control, soft-touch material all-around with silver accents around the AC vents and automatic climate control.

In terms of safety, the new Honda City comes packed with standard equipment. This includes ABS with EBD, vehicle stability control, seat-belt reminder, high-speed warning, multiple airbags, pedestrian protection, hill-start assist, rearview parking camera and sensors; among a host of others.



Thoughts On The New Honda City (2020) Sedan

The new Honda City sedan comes with a host of different updates, while still managing to be distinctly recognisable. The sedan is expected to launch in India in the coming months, with a slight hike in prices. Once launched it will continue to rival the likes of the Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Vento, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
