Honda Accord Recalled In India — Part Of Global Recall To Replace Takata Driver Airbags

Honda Cars India has issued a recall in India for their Accord sedans. The Honda Accord has been recalled in the Indian market over faulty Takata front driver airbags. The Honda Accord recall is part of its global precautionary campaign by the Japanese carmaker.

As part of the recall, Honda has recalled over 3,699 units of the Accord. All Honda Accord sedans, manufactured between 2003 and 2006 have been affected. Honda will replace the faulty airbag inflator module across all Honda dealerships in the country, starting from 18th April 2019. The replacement will be carried out free of cost to the customers.

Honda will also personally get in touch with customers who own the Accord sedan manufactured between 2003-06. Customers can also check if their cars are affected by submitting their 17-character alpha-numeric VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) on the brand's microsite. Customers can alternatively get in touch with dealers themselves to check if their vehicles are affected.

This is the second recall from Honda regarding the Takata airbags in the country. The first recall occured back in January 2018, affecting over 22,834 models of the 2013 Accord, City and Jazz models.

However, in the global market, Honda aren't the only to have issued a recall. According to reports, many carmakers including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Subaru, Ferrari and Tesla have also issued a recall over the same issue. Various reports also suggest that a total of around 1.7 million vehicles have been recalled in US alone, over the Takata airbags issue.

Honda currently sells the ninth-generation Honda Accord Hybrid in the Indian market. The Honda Accord in India is priced at Rs 43.21 lakh, ex-showroom (Delhi). Honda might also bring in the tenth-generation model in the market soon. The 10th-generation Honda Accord is already on sale in international markets and is expected to be soon assembled in India as well.
