Force Gurkha Spied With BS-VI Compliant Engine For The First Time
Force Gurkha has been spied for the first time with a BS-VI compliant version of their 2.2-litre diesel engine offering. The test mule carrying the BS-VI compliant engine was spotted recently by Zigwheels, ahead of the upcoming emission norms of 2020.
Force Motors recently launched the Gurkha Xtreme variant in the Indian market, with their Mercedes-Benz OM-611 derived 2.2-litre diesel engine. The 2.2-litre engine is still BS-IV compliant, however, it will undergo a few updates to make it BS-VI ready.
Force Motors also offers the Gurkha in two other variants — Xplorer and Xpedition. Both these variants come with the older Mercedes-Benz OM 616-derived 2.6-litre diesel engine. This diesel unit might not undergo the upgrade to the BS-VI emission norms, with all future Gurkha offerings being powered by the 2.2-litre unit.
The relatively new 2.2-litre diesel unit produces 140bhp and 321Nm of torque. The engine has been powering the RCF-spec Gurkha since 2014. The engine comes mated to a five-speed manual powering the rear wheels, when not in 4x4 mode. The 2.2-litre diesel engine powers the Xtreme three-door variant of the Force Gurkha.
The other variants: Gurkha Xplorer & Gurkha Expedition comes powered by the old 2.6-litre diesel unit which produces 85bhp and 230Nm of torque. This also comes mated to a five-speed gearbox as standard.
The update to BS-VI emission norms is part of the upcoming mandatory rule of 2020. The new rule makes it compulsory for all segments of automobiles to have engines which are compliant with the BS-VI emission norms.
It is also one of the reasons, even Maruti Suzuki is working on replacing its old 1.3-litre diesel engine, with a BS-VI compliant 1.5-litre diesel unit. The new BS-VI compliant engine will debut on the Ciaz sedan, before expanding to other product in the future.
Thoughts On The Force Gurkha With BS-VI Compliant Engine
Force Motors recently launched its Gurkha Xtreme variant in the Indian market. The Xtreme variant, brought along with it the relatively newer 2.2-litre diesel engine. The Force Gurkha Xtreme is priced at 12.99 lakh, ex-showroom (Delhi). The engine might soon be updated, ahead of the upcoming norms.
