Fiat’s Plan To Stay Afloat — Surviving The Lean Phase
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is putting in place bridge strategy in India as it wants to stay in the game amid a slowdown in the passenger vehicle market, and preparations for the adoption of BS VI emission standards from April next year.
According to Economic Times Auto, the domestic four wheeler markets are expected to bounce back only during the financial year 2020-21, after auto manufacturers have made a 100 per cent move to BS-VI complaint engines. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles say they will rely on expanding it's Jeep Compass SUV fleet with a diesel automatic, 4X4 off-road 'Trailhawk', followed by a mid-cycle action of a Compass SUV in 2020.
This strategy will be will be executed before the company signs off with all new products like the seven seater SUV based on the Jeep Compass and the small B SUV for the coming years.
Kevin Flynn, Managing Director, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles India, said, "The company has invested to be part of the long-term growth of this market. The current slowdown is a temporary phase and once the general election is over, the market will bounce back."
In addition, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles recently announced a partnership with ORIX Auto Infrastructure Services to offer leasing services for it's Jeep models. This partnership will enable customers to lease a Jeep compass for between two and five years, without having to pay for the vehicle outright.
The leasing services will be launched across the country but will start with five metro cities — Pune, Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Delhi NCR.
Sandeep Gambhir, Managing Director and CEO, ORIX Auto Infrastructure Services said that ORIX was looking forward to strengthening it's leasing solutions and were intent on providing innovative benefits to customers. They said they were happy to partner with FCA and this would add more offers for customers.
Thoughts About Fiat's Plan To Stay Afloat In A Lean Passenger Vehicle Market
We're a bit unsure of their strategy. Sure, the leasing bit is okay. As a matter of fact it's way more than good. But adding more variants? Like how does that help? Prices for the vehicles will be roughly the same. We hope Fiat Chrysler Automobiles know what they're doing.
