The Dubai Municipality has started fining residents for leaving their cars dirty. Owners of dirty vehicles parked in public spaces will be fined Dh500 (Rs 9,332) by the Dubai Municipality. Municipal inspectors would be out, patrolling the city for such dirty cars.

Dubai is one of the cleanest and most developed cities in the world. Also, the sheer number of premium cars and supercars in the country is immense. So it would be hard for one to imagine that there would be any dirty cars in Dubai.

However, as it turns out, there are a few people who are not bothered about their cars and leave them as dirty as can be. The Dubai Municipality has now taken strong measures to stop this. The authorities have stated that leaving cars unwashed affects the cleanliness and the aesthetic appearance of the city.

Municipal inspectors would be looking for cars that are damaged, vandalised, contain rubbish or have been stationary for a long time. If such cars are found, the municipal inspectors will stick a notice onto the car asking the owner to clean the car up within 15 days and pay a fine of Dh 500 (Rs 9,332).

If the car remains in the same way even after 15 days, the car would be impounded. Even then, if the owner does not respond, the authorities would auction the car.

It is a necessary step that has been taken by the authorities of one of the world's largest and most developed cities. This rule would not apply to the large number of abandoned cars found in Dubai, but only to those cars that are owned by somebody and yet is found in a dirty condition.

That leads us to think of the chaos that would ensue if a similar rule was implemented in India. The authorities would make lots of money in just a day but vehicle owners would be left disgruntled.
