Delhi To Receive 100 More Cluster Buses This Week: More Buses Every Month
The Delhi government is on a mission to increase it's public transport fleet. The government is going to add 100 buses to the existing numbers on Friday. The addition will help public transport services cater to more travelers once the free-travel scheme for women kicks in on 29 October.
Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said that the buses will be launched by Delhi's Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. He also added that there would be more buses added to the fleet every month.
Out of the 100 buses that will be flagged off, 25 are stationed at the Dwarka depot, and 25 at the Rani Khera depot. 25 buses will be stationed at the Hari Nagar depot.
Mr Kejriwal had earlier flagged off 25 non-AC standard-floor buses which are part of the 1,000 buses that are going to be inducted into the cluster scheme. The Chief Minister assured citizens of the city-state that 3,000 buses would be added to the existing fleet over the next seven to eight months.
A cluster scheme basically means that new buses will be deployed to multiple depots at the same time. This eases traffic across multiple locations, resulting in a smoother transition. The government is also able to decommission buses across multiple locations at the same time.
Sources say that the lot of 300 buses that were to be added by the end of October experienced a delay because of changes in specifications of (CCTV) Closed Circuit Television cameras.
Mr Kejriwal had said earlier that all 1,000 non-AC standard-floor buses would be on the roads within the next six months. His government also plans to roll out 1,000 AC buses under the cluster scheme by January 2020.
Thoughts About The Additional 100 Buses Being Added To Delhi's Existing Fleet
Delhi needs a minimum of 11,000 buses to cater to the current demand, the city has under 5,000 buses in reality. What the government needs to do is to roll out as many buses as they possible can. With ministers like Arvind Kejriwal around we think it will 11 years before that target it met (considering he's flagging off 100 buses a month) - Entertaining, as always.
