Datsun Redi Go Scores One Star At Global NCAP Crash Tests: Details
The Datsun Redi-Go was recently crash-safety tested by the Global NCAP and has been awarded a one star rating towards safety. The Redi-Go has managed to score the least number of points so far (among cars being tested for safety).
Datsun's hatchback was awarded one star for adult occupant safety, and two stars for child occupant safety, making it the most unsafe car between the four that were tested — the Hyundai Santro, the Maruti WagonR & Ertiga, and the Datsun.
The NCAP report said that the Redi-Go offers only a driver frontal airbag as standard. The vehicle's structure, and foot-well was rated as unstable, and head protection for driver was rated adequate thanks to steering wheel displacements.
The result's said that head protection for passengers was good, driver and passenger neck protection was good, Chest protection was rated poor for the driver and marginal for the passenger.
Poor protection of the driver chest translates to high possibilities of life threatening injuries. Poor protection for any of the critical body regions, in this case the chest, limits the star rating to one star for the adults.
The Redi-Go does not feature (SBR) Seat Belt Reminders at the front seats, and the SBR points were limited due to possible chest injuries. Child occupant protection was rated as poor because of contact of the head for test dummies representing an 18-month old, and because of an exposed head of the dummy representing a 3-year old.
Other safety features on the Datsun Redi-Go include door locking from the central console, a remote locking system, and driver side airbags. The vehicle is powered by a 1.0-litre petrol engine that produces 67bhp of power and 91Nm of torque. The vehicle is available with both manual and AMT transmission option.
The Datsun Redi-Go is currently priced at Rs 3.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
Thoughts About The One Star Rating
This is legendary! Safety results somehow remind us of the Fred Flintstones' car. All man-power and zero safety. In fact, we think Fred's car was safer thanks to those logs of wood for wheels. We wonder if these manufacturers will get fined for offering almost no safety. They should be fined, heavily. But that's our opinion. We're sure someone at the transport ministry has already received a large under-the-table payout to do nothing.
