Datsun is all set to launch the CVT automatic variants of the GO and GO+ models soon in India. The dealers across the country have started accepting bookings for both the automatic models with a pre-booking amount of Rs 11,000.

The CVT options on both the models will be offered on the top two trims called the ‘T' and ‘T(O)'. The GO and GO+ automatic variants when launched, will be the cheapest CVT variants sold in Indian market. The CVT transmission featured on both the models are sourced from the Nissan Micra hatchback, Datsun's parent company.

Both models now become compliant to the upcoming crash protection norms in India slated for October 2019. Both models undergo slight changes in manufacturing the cars by the addition of side crash and pedestrian protection making it safer. Both models also now feature a speed sensing auto door lock as well.

The GO and GO+ automatic variants features a CVT badge on the tailgate to stand apart from the manual transmission models. Apart from that, the CVT variants do not feature any exterior or interior changes as compared to the manual transmission models. The CVT variants are 23 kgs heavier than the manual variants due to the addition of an automatic transmission.

The GO and GO+ CVT variants features the same engine as the manual models, but with a re-tune to match the automatic transmission. The 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine now produces max power of 77.5bhp of power at 6000rpm and 104Nm of torque at 4400rpm as compared to the manual model's 68bhp of power and 104Nm of torque.

The CVT automatic transmission has an advantage with better power delivery and fuel efficiency as compared to the AMT automatic transmission featured on the other models in the market. We expect the CVT transmission on both models to offer a smooth and peppy performance. However, CVT are expensive as compared to an AMT transmission.

The GO and GO+ models still feature a BS-IV complaint petrol engine. However, the company plans to update the engines to comply with BS-VI emission norms, which will be effective from April 1, 2020.

The Datsun GO CVT when launched will rival against the Maruti WagonR, Hyundai Santro and Tata Tiago automatic models. The Datsun GO features a superior CVT automatic transmission, as compared to all its rivals featuring an AMT automatic transmission.

The Datsun GO+ will rival against the only competitor in the segment, the Renault Triber. The Triber MPV is currently offered with a manual gearbox only. However, Renault will be adding an AMT automatic variant of the Triber soon.

The CVT variants of both the models are expected to see a price increase of Rs 60,000 over the current top-spec pricing.

Datsun is introducing CVT variants of both models, in response to the growing demand towards automatic transmission buyers in Indian market. The company has managed to gain a clear advantage over its rivals by offering CVT transmission on both the models. The company has even managed to gain an upper hand by offering the GO+ with a segment first automatic transmission.
