Central Government Plans Policy For Vehicle Recall: To Be Made Mandatory
The government is in the process of toughening its stance towards faulty vehicles and faulty components, especially those that involve passenger safety. Reports are that the Central Government is working towards a policy for a mandatory recall of entire batches of vehicles if the number of defects breach a pre-defined threshold (a pre decided percentage of vehicles sold).

While we know that the new policy change will empowers the Road Transport Ministry to order a recall a faulty vehicle(s) or component(s), no decision has been reached in regard to the percentage of faulty vehicles of a particular model which would trigger such a recall.
The ministry has also sought suggestions considering that the volume of vehicles produced varies depending on the make and model. For example, a luxury car model sold in a market could be in few hundred in numbers, while another for the mass market could be in the thousands or lakhs.
Thoughts About The Vehicle Recall Policy The Government Is Working On
Good. We need this. There are some manufactures that voluntary recall vehicles when they discover an issue, and there are those that simply do not care. While we are always amazed and entertained with the Central government's policies and laws, we remain unsure about how this one will be executed. The last big change to the law was a heavy increase in traffic fines, and pretty much no one cares, the government included.
