Limited Edition Aston Martin Vantage AMR Revealed — The Return Of The Manual
British luxury carmaker Aston Martin has revealed the limited run Vantage AMR. The Aston Martin Vantage AMR will be limited to just 200 units with 59 of these special run cars dedicated to the 'Vantage 59' specification. The Aston Martin Vantage AMR will make its public debut at the next round of the World Endurance Championship which takes place this weekend at the Spa Francorchamps circuit in Belgium.
Other than being a limited run vehicle what really sets the Vantage AMR from the regular Vantage is the brand new 7-speed dog-leg manual gearbox. First gear on this transmission can be reached by going left and down from neutral. Aston Martin has added its new AMSHIFT technology to the new gearbox which allows for revmatching during downshifts and shift gears without lifting off the throttle pedal under hard acceleration.
The gearbox will make its way onto the regular Vantage next year. The addition of the new gearbox means that the new Vantage AMR is 95 kilogrammes lighter than the regular automatic version of the Vantage sports car.
The new dog-leg manual gearbox also has resulted in a slightly tweaked engine. While the power output of the Mercedes-AMG sourced 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine at 503bhp, the torque output of the limited run car is limited to 625Nm, which is 60Nm lower than the output of the regular Vantage. The sprint time from 0–100km/h time of the Vantage AMR is timed at 4.0 seconds, which is three tenths of a second slower than the regular Vantage. However, the top speed remains unchanged at 314km/h.
To bring the Aston Martin Vantage AMR to a halt, the British carmaker has fitted the limited edition vehicle with carbon-ceramic brakes with diameters measuring in at 410mm up front and 360mm at the rear. Like the standard vantage, the AMR also features adaptive dampers as well a limited slip differential.
Aston Martin will offer the new Vantage AMR in five designer specifications with 59 units dedicated to the 'Vantage 59' spec. The Vantage 59 pays tribute to Aston Martin's DBR1 race car that won the 1959 24 hours of Le Mans. The Vantage 59 will only be offered in a Sterling Green paint job with lime green accents for the racing stripe, front grille surround, brake callipers and the rear diffuser. Owners of the other 141 Vantage AMRs can choose from four different paint schemes - white, grey, blue and black.
