Ashok Leyland Nails Order For 400 Buses — Here We Come Senegal!
Chennai based commercial vehicle manufacturing giant Ashok Leyland, the flagship of the Hinduja Group, has nailed an order from the African nation of Senegal to supply 400 minibuses valued 10.06 million Euros (approximately Rs 80 crore) to Senbus Industries. Senbus Industries manufacturers and retails buses out of Dakar, Senegal.
According to the Economic Times, Ashok Leyland said, in a press release, that the order arrived after the successful operation of 475 buses to Senegal's Dakar Dem Dikk.
The press release from Ashok Leyland said, "The Eagle 916 bus is a strong and sturdy platform, which has been developed exclusively for Africa. Featuring superior technology of inline pump with Euro III emission norms, maneuverability and fuel-efficiency, Eagle takes comfort, safety and profitability to the next level. Extensive on road product trials have been carried out with various customers in Africa. These buses have been tried and tested on numerous successful projects. The capital of Senegal will start receiving buses towards the end of June this year."
Arijit Dutta Chowdhury, Vice President, Project & Defence Sales, International Operations, Ashok Leyland, said, "This order will be a starting phase to connect rural remote areas of Senegal to urban cities and to promote sustainable mobility."
Ashok Leyland will also work closely with Senbus to assemble the Semi-Knocked Down buses locally. "Ashok Leyland's team of engineers will work extensively with the skilled team at Senbus for vehicle assembly, delivering high quality finished products and after sales support. A full-fledged workshop is also being planned at Dakar by Senbus Industries," the release said.
Ashok Leyland is the fourth largest manufacturer of buses in the world. Ashok Leyland also makes spare parts and engines for industrial and marine applications. With passenger transportation options ranging from 10 seaters to 74 seaters, Ashok Leyland is a market leader in the bus segment.
Thoughts About Ashok Leyland Nailing an 80 Crore Worth Contract
Alright! One more for India. Some of us do not care or feel when we see a vehicle with an 'Ashok Leyland' badge. It is refreshing to know that an Indian based company is the fourth largest bus manufacturer in the world. And nailing a contract in Senegal is brilliant. At the very least, they're ranked 23 on the FIFA list.
